It's going to be an extremely tough task tomorrow but not impossible. I'm going for Hawaii in 5 though I know damn well what they are up against. Just gotta believe and hope for the best. Go Bows!

UH fought hard against MSU, but were very up and down. WA will exploit that, and keep coming at you with weapons all over. UH has to serve strong to have a chance, and BVS needs to take over. WA will likely be too strong, though I hope it's a battle. BVS doesn't 'take over'. Not that kind of player. She fills the gaps and complements everyone else's game, and they all play better as a result. Watch the last point video of tonight's match. Skyler gets blocked, and BVS is there in a diving roll for the perfect cover and up to Lang, who then makes the perfect back set to Leoniak, who then hits over a huge split in the block.
BVS can score, but what makes her so valuable to Hawaii is how she much better everyone else plays when she's on the court. I have watched a lot of Hawai'i this season, and while I like them, I am not as emotionally tied to them as I am to Wisconsin, which can cloud my perception of the Badgers. BVS has been the type of player to take over at times this season, getting her team kills they really, really need, even out of system.

It was good to see Brooke Van Sickle back in Hec Ed again. I remember her from when she played for the Ducks. I don't know if things have changed for her over the years, but the Van Sickle I remember from Oregon could take over a match and look like supergirl, but could also be completely ineffective. It was kind of hard to predict what you would get with her. Anyway, this looks like it should be an entertaining match, with teams that have rather different looks and styles of play. I hope the match gets played: UCLA’s game with Washington mens basketball on Sunday at Washington has been canceled due to covid problems with the university of Washington's mens basketball team!! 🙏🏻 Hoping know one gets covid’d out!!!

That’s sign that says “go dawgs” on one side then “bow down” when flipped was funny. No pun.

Her kills are valuable and she leads the team. But if the other team focuses on her and her alone, she isn't the type of player to beat the double block and a back row that's setup and focused on just her. Hawaii won't ignore its middles or oppo or backrow hitters and just set BVS on the pin all night. Luckily, Robyn knows this, Lang knows it, and the rest of the team knows it. She'll get her points though, but they come from all over the court and in every conceivable way.

Those can be some of the most dangerous teams. Especially this time of year. Play by play caller on the ESPN+ stream said something about Hawaii always looking like they were in system against Miss. State, and I had to laugh. I recall that quote and to be fair, when he said it Hawaii was in system a lot and pretty much forcing the middle attack down MSUs throat. But being in system against MSU vs being in system against UW are totally different beasts.

If I had to guess who picked the Wahine to sweep UW I would say it was Wahine fan, Steve, Laura, Yvonne, or one of those people. 🙄

No Hawaii sweep. Hawaii win? Possible.
UW has had some disturbing down streaks this year. See Montana State or the second UCLA meeting. Even some of their wins came with stretches of less than stellar play.
Friday night, Hawaii was pushed and had to fight for survival in the end. Washington was able to almost clear the bench. Pick your perspective: Hawaii was tested or Washington is rested.
If I had to bet, I'd do 3-1 or 3-0 UW. But I won't be stunned if this one goes to the wire.
Also, sooner or later, Hawaii is going to win a tournament match in Seattle.

Seattle Times Story: www.seattletimes.com/sports/uw-huskies/washington-volleyball-sweeps-brown-reaches-second-round-of-ncaa-tournament-for-20th-straight-season/“There are a lot of memories and a lot of standards when you have a program like this,” Cook said. “Sometimes the second round seems like the starting point, but you can’t take any match for granted, or any opponent for granted. We got our sights set on getting to Columbus (for the Final Four), but certainly proud to keep any streak going that we’ve had for 20 years.” “We put a really high emphasis on defensive intensity, and we know when we hit that standard, we can play really, really good volleyball, and I don’t think we hit that tonight,” said outside hitter Claire Hoffman. “We are really excited to have another chance to play at home and try to beat that standard.” “We are looking forward to another classic Hawaii-Washington showdown here (Saturday),” Cook said.

What I would do for some good Hawaiian sushi about now! What a complement it would be to another Hawaii-UW classic. I guess a good 5-set hard fought win will have to do, a Christmas come early!
Last spring, for the dawgs, the talk was all about the liability of the libero situation. Now, I would have to think complacency will be their biggest issue. After last nights match it appears that health, depth and nerves can not be an excuse if they should falter.
Here's to another fun 5 set thriller and not too many frayed nerves.
