The question for the Wahine is who will start at the opposite: Tiff or Leo? The big question among Husky fans is who should start at OH (besides Hoffman) -- Bush, Crenshaw, or Endsley? To me I would think it's a matter of whether we need better hitting, blocking or digging. I like Endsley's power hitting, Bushes higher hands and Crenshaw's ability to cover more ground. What in Hawaii's lineup can we exploit best?

If only all those 3 strengths were not individual lol, I say we go with blocking so Bush. But Crenshaw is also a solid blocker.

I agree, Bush is probably the best option. Hawaii's MBs were their top two weapons against Mississippi and they're listed as 6'1" and 6'3". All the better if on offense Bush gets lined up opposite BVS. This could be a huge boost.

Good point. I meant to suggest a "second round tournament match." Yeah the Wahine are more than due. They even lost the 2nd rounder in Seattle when they were a seeded team who got shipped out to unseeded host Washington. That one hurt in 2010. And arguably Washington should have been seeded that year, and that should not have been a 2nd round matchup. But the one that really hurts.... 2012 ... hartong swinging for the match in set 4 .... I can't even finish this sentence ...

All the better if on offense Bush gets lined up opposite BVS. This could be a huge boost. Bush would be on Westerberg/Leoniak (OPP) or Lang (S). Drechsel or Powell would be on Van Sickle, except when hitting on the right (1 out of 3 frontrow rotations). Hawaii has a left-side focused offense, with Van Sickle (3.77 k/s) and Wagoner (2.67 k/s) at OH. UW will want Bush on Lang (5'10" S). Westerberg/Leoniak are playing OPP for Hawaii, but are not the big offensive threats that Van Sickle and Wagoner are, so I could see Crenshaw coming in (or starting) at OH to improve ball control or increase offensive efficiency. Bush's block could be big in blunting Hawaii's middles.

No real need to go into player matchups or get into the weeds on this head to head. It’s pretty simple. Hawaii can win if the block limits getting tooled out of reach of the defenders and the Hawaii transition offense is aggressive. Anything other than this and I don’t think they win this (sans major injury). UW is just very good out of system. They can lose the serve/pass game and still win, they can lose the blocking game and still win, they can lose the backcourt defense game and still win. Hawaii has to limit how effective UW is out of system and make the UW backcourt play defense.

If those are the choices in strengths, I’d say go for offense. Hawaii’s OHs are more likely to tool or hit around a block than try to hit over it. It sounds like UWs biggest strength is to terminate out of system, so maybe go with the strength.

Secret weapon: Leoniak, watch out, well if she starts.

UW was #2 in the PAC in hitting percentage. #3 in blocks/set. #2 in aces/set. #3 in kills/set.
It's not so much that they had a single strength as that they were quite good at most aspects of the game.
But if I had to narrow it down, I would say that their most important single strength probably has the initials EMP.

The key is UW getting UH out of system and limiting their offensive options (making setting their middles more difficult).
