Because play stopped on the refs whistle. That’s why the replay. I went back and watched with audio. The whistle was well after the ball hit the ground. Should've been a point for Utah. I actually thought the same thing 🙂 But I also thought the tip went OVER the antenna. Weird play.

Just tuning in. Who are these announcers? The same announcers that always do BYU vb matches. yup, probably live on byutv as well as espn+
I love me some byu announcers overall, Jarom knows the basics, but it's his enthusiasm that transcends. Some might say he's a homer, but he's paid by BYU, so meh criticism. That said, they're also fair, they called that one ball in, were critical of that antenna replay saying Lanier should keep her challenge too.

Pittsburgh - Penn State was a fun match to watch. This one has been better so far.

This is by far the most entertaining match of the day IMO, mostly cause of the fans and energy in the gym. Great atmosphere and the players are hyped. Yeah. I've been waiting to watch the Hawaii/Wash match, but I'll have to keep this one on the main screen and put the other on the side.

I actually thought the same thing 🙂 Although with the replay they showed on the broadcast, I thought the ball went over the antenna, so that's out. Maybe the R2 had a different/better angle.

The same announcers that always do BYU vb matches. Yet they still don't know that the referee signaling with two thumbs up is a "Replay" not a "Jump ball"? meh, they know, just calling in their own voice, and thats completely fine, people understand what they meant.

Are you sure that's the rule? Something similar happened in another match and the ruling was about whether it happened after the 'action' occurred. I think it was the ASU/USC match in the 5th set. The 'action' is that the ball hit the antenna on the attack and it doesn't matter when the whistle was blown. I don't know this for sure, though.

Just something I thought watching these second round matches is that the setting really isn’t what it’s been the past few years in the NCAA. Not particularly bower but I’ve seen many setters double or set unclean even on sets that weren’t called a double. Missing the days of sss, poulter and lilley.

Pittsburgh - Penn State was a fun match to watch. This one has been better so far. It’s cuz the field house is elite and no one wants to come play BYU in it.

It more commonly happens when a net is called on a play when the ball goes straight to the ground. If replay shows no net, the result of the play is usually ball down. Not a replay.

I think the thought process on setting is beginning to change and less doubles are called because typically double contacts typically are also placed in bad locations so there's nothing really gained. At least that's my impression of todays setting calls.
