Also, welcome to Madison, gobruins! Let us know if you need restaurant recommendations or anything. I was there recently for the de facto Big Ten championship game between the Badgers and the Huskers. Settled on the first restaurant we saw that was open (it was Friday after Thanksgiving) and was surprised to find that a burger with ‘Bad Breath’ in its name actually tasted really good. Lol Even more surprised to find mulligatawny soup (that tasted amazing!) on the menu of a tavern. As expected, good local beers all around. As for the Field House, I didn’t expect it to be that…quaint. Electric crowd though and very entertaining match. Almost made up for how expensive the tickets were. Almost. We were seated a few rows behind the Huskers and they should have indicated it as partially obstructed view because of how close the bench players were standing to the actual bench. Lol! We could barely see Nebraska’s backcourt. Lots of options on where to get drinks after the game. There were plenty of people when we went but I imagine it’s much livelier when most of the students are in town. All in all a pretty good weekend trip that I’ll probably do again. Congrats to the Badgers, btw! "Quaint" could be seen as a compliment for a nearly 100 year old building that's on the national register of historic places, but I'm guessing it wasn't. Oh the shade. A little respect, perhaps, when describing the home of the team that's won the league championship three years running? LOL

I think this goes to the Badgers should they play at the level that they expect from themselves. UCLA is a good team and I admire the play of Mac May and Zoe Fleck, but the Badgers may just be too much. It will be a blowout. Ok, maybe not a blowout, but a nice comfortable 3-0 sweep.

I’d have to agree. Especially if UCLA plays the way it did in its sub region.

One thing I always want to know in a new city is "Where is the best pizza in town?" (This will be an odd 'recommendation' because I've never been there, but it shows up on lists for 'best pizza in town', etc) The area around the corner of Regent St and Park St, maybe a half-mile from the Field House, used to be known as the "Greenbush" neighborhood and was "the Italian" part of town. And there is one restaurant that still traces it's origin to those days, the Greenbush Bar. As I said, I've never actually been; maybe others can chime in. Also, their web site implies (?) that they are still operating as 'pick-up only'. FWIW The Greenbush used to have very good, and cheap, food. Now it is so-so, and more expensive. (It changed hands, and got more popular, which didn't do the regulars any favors.) It, not the Field House, is quaint. Old, small, cramped, friendly.
The best pizza in Madison is Glass Nickel Pizza, but it's not near campus, so you would have to have it delivered. The "Fetalicious" is my favorite; and the Pesto is great, too.
Regarding seats: We got our Reserved Section tickets yesterday, and they are horrible. Worse than the sub-regional. So, get to the Field House early and compete with the General Admission ticket holders for those seats on the north and south ends. Behind the pillars is not the place to watch the Regional!

As for the Field House, I didn’t expect it to be that…quaint. "Quaint?" It was built in 1930. It's on the National Register of Historic Places. What were you expecting? I'm still trying to understand the expensive ticket comment too? Maybe off Stubhub....well that's not the University_s fault. Also, at least it has a dedicated floor and facility too, and not random lines on a basketball court.

We should expect the same from Baylor. UCLA and MN we should be good. McGwire couldn't be bothered with the mask in pre-conference. oh dear lord. God forbid a coach that’s standing on the side line by all his unmasked players on the court doesn’t wear his mask. Do you know how many coaches don’t wear them during the game? Why single out Ryan? Because he's the only one in the fieldhouse that didn't wear one. I don't care what they are doing elsewhere.

Couple of questions from a UCLA fan coming to Madison this weekend: Are there any seats that have backs, or are they all benches? Is public Wi-Fi available in the Field House? Want to be able to watch some of the other matches on my phone. There is public WiFi "BadgerWiFI" that works fine. We kept an eye on a Brewers playoff game earlier this year and it streamed fine.

That's the Weary Traveler on the east side; I used to live around the corner. Excellent food and you can eat in right now. Best pizza can be Roman Candle or Glass Nickel, but Salvatore's Tomato Pies is up there as well. Just don't call it a pizza. (It's a pizza.)

I feel like Natt Spil doesn't get enough credit for their pizza. Granted, it might be because it's kind of hidden next to Great Dane on the corner of Doty and King St. If you're looking for really good brick oven pizza and dim sum I would suggest checking them out. Not close to the Field House, but they do offer delivery.

I'm starting to think we need a 2021 NCAA D1 Women's Volleyball Tournament Pizza Source thread.

I grew up in WI, my father owned a couple pizza places in the Fox Valley, and then I lived for 25 years in Los Angeles. Except for the rare place run by east coast transplants, you could literally get better pizza at O'Hare airport than you can find in Los Angeles. On the other hand, Chinese was just SOOO much better in LA.)

I still pay with cash because, to me, that's always been part of the experience of going there, but it seems like they've adapted to more modern times. Their online ordering is through EatStreet so that's electronic as well.

Best Szechuan in town - by miles.
