I was very aware that Wiswell wasn't new to the board when I said that. His number of posts appears to the left of each one he makes, after all. You should read it as a veteran making a rookie mistake. Setters just don't get much lip service, except about what they do wrong. At least they get more credit than liberos, But that's really it. I think the setter position is very underappreciated in this sport. SOTG: So if you read my profile, then you must be aware of how long I've been on this board? nowhere did I claim you were new either ? it was just funny, participation level (post count) vs. # of years participated (both of you obviously have been here for a while) coupled with you calling him new... just was funny, I pointed it out humorously, but there are wayyyy meaner people. anyways, ON WISCONSIN

Why are more people not talking about Dilfer? She's a HUGE reason the Cards are where they are just as Hilley is for the Badgers. Two GREAT setters! Probably because there aren't a ton of Louisville fans on this board. She's pretty great. All setters in the final four are great. Hames has her intangibles, but she's missing one of the core competency of a setter...location. So many great passes and I found myself saying, "trap set," "too low," "too high" waaay too often for as good as that passing was.

Until this year which is giving me major band wagon vibes, I wonder how many of these Louisville “fans” could name more than 3 players from before DBK took over lol

Something interesting from an interview with John cook, he said “Louisville is the best team we’ve played all year” looks like he may think they have the upper hand on wisco

Or, he is acknowledging their #1 ranking. He's not going to say they shouldn't be #1. (although he wasn't shy about saying a certain team didn't really win the Big Ten in 2014).
You might be reading into it too much. After all Lower seeded NE beat #2 TX.

No I’m just saying he said in an interview yesterday that “Louisville is the best team we played all season, they spanked us”

Wisconsin wasn't terribly good when they beat Neb in Lincoln, IMO. They needed Smrek to win that and that shouldn't happen. Badgers were better when they beat Neb in Madison, but Nebraska also got a lot better, especially serving.
It took a while for Wisconsin to figure out how to replace Hart and get a back row attack. Now they have a pretty steady lineup and seem to be getting more comfortable with it all the time.
So, Louisville is very good, but Cook played them when his own team wasn't good, and the badgers are definitely a moving target. I'm not sure his comparisons should be taken quite so categorically.

If I'm Wisconsin I'm sending as many balls to Louisville's right back defense as possible. That seems to be their glaring weakness.

There's more to Louisville than their setter! Think other players should be in the conversation but it seems like its just about how great Dilfer is. Her location is not great and her right back defense is suspect to put it lightly. So everyone says it is a well balanced team so lets give her other teammates a little kudos and not just the setter!

The Badgers' last two performances on the national stage have been abysmal. Granted, in 2019 they got Plummed. But they just didn't seem prepared, or something. I hope they have gained valuable experience from that. It is the same crew, after all. It has been a lifetime since they played outside the Field house too. I could be wrong but it also felt like Wisconsin was a little flat or nervous in 2019. I think it's hard to play your best in these moments (see Tiffany Clark), so it could come down to which team handles the moment better. Does it help that this Wisconsin core has been here 2x before? Also, I think an underrated difference between Regional Finals and FF is the crowd. Except for Nebraska, these teams played in front of loud, cheering hometown fans last weekend. The crowd in Columbus will be a lot less one-sided. How much does that matter? Again, in 2019 I thought Stanford had a small edge in playing in front of a quieter (at least on TV) championship crowd because that's literally what they play in front of every night at Maples, lol.

Of course, the really important thing is to have an apparently logical explanation to believe what you want.

I agree with the poster that the Badgers will be playing in front of a hostile crowd, with Louisville and Nebraska fans and ACC fans all on the same side on this one. So Badger fans need to bring their A game. No sitting on your hands, people!

I have no idea who will win this match, so haven't voted. These are closely matched but also very different teams. It will be an adventure.

Everyone realizes that badgers fans always undersell the team out of fear of disappointment, right?
