May not have much time for volleyball this week either. I'm prescribing you an immediate vacation. What's your boss's email?

Nygaard isn't really a candidate here, Speraw is Speraw but he also had the largest collection of talent and ultimately they lost in the semis. Kosty had a strong case but Stanford also had plenty of underperforming before their very impressive finish. He probably gets it if they win the MPSF, which is the reason why I think Hunt won it. Also, Hunt's job this year was a lot harder than I think a lot of people give him credit for. He had an interesting duo of good opposites in which there wasn't a clear best way to play them, a great player in Wickens who he needed to figure out if he would be better at outside or libero, and a guy like Gettinger who he also needed to find court time for, as his recent play has made clear.

To your point then, Speraw had it harder: Three outstanding OPP that each hold a unique skill set in Korbine, David, Ketrzynski that he had to juggle around for playing time. He had to relegate another great OPP in Vom Steeg to a serving sub role. A trio of quality OHs in Champlin, Knight, and Sloane, where he had to find balance in passing (Champlin/Knight) and offense (Sloane/Champlin). He had three other experienced on the bench that he could've gone to as well. A handful of solid middles in McHenry, Genis, Norris, Parish, etc and had to mix and match all season to figure out which combination would work. A hugh-level passing libero in Pender with a good, freshman defender in Aziz. I don't think having options and figuring out how to use them makes any coach worthy of Coach of the Year. Pepperdinr had an okayish season and lucked out during the MPSF tournament. That's it.

Hunt over Kosty? Over Speraw? Hell, over Nygaard? Kosty is the popular choice due to their finish but it’s also important to note that they did not win a single away match during the regular season. There could be a variety of reasons for that, but coaching definitely plays a big part there. Also, like another user said, if Stanford wins in the finals, he likely wins it. It was really a toss up this year, as I don’t think there was a clear cut winner.

You guy's are classic! Of course none of you were at the tournament for the Pepperdine win. Lucky for Pepperdine. It is always lucky to win the MPSF too. Thank god they drew UCLA, lucky again. Lucky only the coaches can vote each other. Wow, I love this group, you must be hoping for a Big West final. Go figure. Great win for David Hunt and Pepperdine, what a great finish for the Stanford seniors and John Kosty. Go MPSF!

Even if Stanford went 0-26 this year, Kosty still should have been Coach of the Year. What he did in keeping the program alive should make him National Coach of the Year.

Hunt over Kosty? Over Speraw? Hell, over Nygaard? Yup! And it is totally deserved. Nygaard is a poor coach and is has failed USC once again. He must be fired. Also, It is not David Hunt's fault Speraw can't coach easily the best roster in college volleball to an MPSF championship! And Kosty? Lmao, David hunt is 3-0 over that guy. Luck? You must be a Pep hater.

Pepperdinr had an okayish season and lucked out during the MPSF tournament. That's it. Lucked out during the MPSF tournament? Pepperdine had to consecutively beat BYU, USC, and Stanford. That does not seem like luck to me. Speraw having an ungodly amount of talent is an awesome problem to have an of course if you have all that, and cant even make it to the MPSF finals none the less win the MPSF, of course you dont deserve it. The award is the "MPSF" coach of the year. Last time I checked, David Hunt was the coach of teh team that WON the MPSF. The award is called, "MPSF coach with best record" or "MPSF 4th place coach of the year."
