A player has 5 years to play 4. I don't think Holzman needs to "apply" for a medical redshirt until after her 4th year. Given the challenges she has faced, she probably doesn't want to think about playing a second year until after she has played her first year. Her spirits have been good, every time one looked at the bench she was leading the cheers. There are players who red shirt / get a medical redshirt so they get more than 5 years to play 4. She was a big cheerleader on the bench. Very similar to Beth Prince. Highly regarded out of HS but plagued by injuries her entire career. |

We’ll definitely need some outside hitters after this season. Not sure what players are still available, but I hope Vansant can recruit a couple of big-time hitters for ‘23. Otherwise, we’ll have to rely on the transfer portal to give us some depth on the outside.

Didn't she receive a four year scholarship initially? Under B1G policy if she had a scholarship for her senior year it cannot be pulled for a history of injuries. |

I keep thinking this past year was her senior year. She may have been given 4 years. I wouldn't say it is a guarantee though. I think health would be the reason she doesn't come back. Either not 100% or the risk of re-injury is too high.

Even if she cannot play because of injury Illinois would still have to honor her scholarship. I don't know if they can use a different fund that would not count against the 12 scholarship limit if she is not on the roster. If she is on schedule to graduate I cannot imagine her going someplace else if she is not going to play.

2019 was her freshman year (when she redshirted), which will make her a redshirt junior this fall. She should have at least two years of eligibility. When she’s healthy, she’s our best hitter (along with Terry). Would love to see them play a couple of seasons together.

Again I think she won't come back because she is not 100% competitive volleyball healthy. |

Again, based on what? Do you have inside information? She looks fit, she loves the game and still has 8 months to recover before the start of the season. Many athletes return after an ACL injury.

I agree and expect her back. All season she looked like she was enjoying herself. Looking forward to watching her play. She has to be incredibly frustrated. She looks like she can’t wait, based solely on watching during matches. |
