CC had a tough night but it's not too long ago when everyone was praising her game. And her and Landfair didn't serve well. In the 4th set, it seemed Penn State knew where/who Shaffmaster was setting and especially towards the end of the set. I wished she would have use the MB on the slide a bit more. It was open.

sat nt. figstats SD 26-1 (RPI: 9) (AdjRPI: 9) .6796 root for BYU in their last match on Tuesday OR 20-5 (RPI: 11) (AdjRPI: 10) .6748 has USC, Cal., & AZ St. (USC is probably the only obstacle) KY 17-7 (RPI: 12) (AdjRPI: 11) .6737 has FL Sunday, and a pair vs So. Carolina (go Gators!) MN 17-8 (RPI: 13) (AdjRPI: 12) .6712 Rutgers, OSU, NEB
beating Rutgers probably reduces our RPI (I dunno and haven't studied)
If WI beats NE on Friday will NE, on Saturday, be motivated to win or to rest starters/ experiment to better prepare for the tourney? If NE beats WI Friday then Saturday night will be a knockdown dragout as NE will fight for a top 4 seed. Exciting weekend for the B1G.
I am of the opinion that MN can hold its own vs anyone if we play to our potential, but the TX matchup is the most challenging. 10th gets you to the 7th then the 2 seed (Louisville), but we'd need help and outperformance i think 11th gets you to the 6th then the 3 seed (Stanford) 12th gets you to the 5th then the 4 seed
The sweet spot if my guessing is right (11th) will get us another go with Stanford if we survive to the elite 8
i could be all wrong and please correct this if so

First, Minnesota wins against Maryland and Indiana are looking better and better. So they lost to a tough Penn State team at their home venue and relaxed a bit too much in the third set when playing the conference cup cake - no need to panic. I still like this Minnesota team and their chances next weekend. Go Gophers.

I love your optimism and I wish I could share in it, but until I see an improvement in serve/receive and,to some extent, behavior I am not confident they can beat the good teams.

Now Ohio State will be on a mission following 2 poor showings this weekend. Perfect! 🙄 MN will have to play their best of the year to get any wins next weekend, praying for a miracle turnaround heading into the tournament.

I am anticipating a return trip to the Madison Field House for the regional final weekend. Assuming we get back to playing closer to our capability and WI doesn't collapse. I don't think the committee is going to give the ACC 2 spots in the top seed category. the 3 seeds (9-12) will slot into a regional host that is less than 400 mi away the 4 seeds (13-16) will be treated the same. don't know what happens if both Marquette and MN are in the same group of 4 but it would be better if we move to 12 from 13 as we'd face the top seed later.

They need to start playing their best from here on out. Need them to find whatever it was they had when they played WI the first time. They played loose and had fun.. really hoping we start to see that again. More smiles, more laughs, more bodies flying and making scrappy plays. Make an error? Move on instead of dwelling on it. That’s what we’re used to seeing out of MN teams Good news is OSU looked awful this weekend, with and without Murr. Are they tired from such a rough schedule and on a downswing? I hope so (even though I was rooting for them to win the B1G). We are also more than capable of beating Nebraska. No samedy to save us this year but if we can distribute the ball better and serve tough we can do it. Bonus that I’d prefer to be in the 10-12 range vs the 7-9 range for seeding anyways. Only worry is that Landfair went down against PSU and that cramp? Injury? seemed to bother her against Rutgers as well. Anyone else notice when she was pulled during the Rutgers match she was working with the trainer on the bench? Hopefully it’s nothing 🤞

Have we tried using one of our many middles as a right side yet? Besides our serve receive game I feel we are lacking a strong right side presence. I feel Wenaas has improved tremendously at the right blocking wise but something is still off when it comes to timing and positioning between Mel and Jenna. If we can have a middle like Gros or Husemann on the right side that would strengthen our block and they can do a slide attack or work something out with the middles to create switch plays and attack from the middle.
Between Jenna and McKenna, I still feel Jenna should be attacking on the left when Taylor is in the back row. It’s hard to know the truth when you’re watching on tv so I could be 100% wrong but I feel McKenna’s body language shows frustration in a way that no one else on the floor does. I think she only gets frustrated at herself like when she gets blocked or messes up but I feel that changes the energy for everybody on the court. Jenna is one of the steady leaders on our team and she needs to play where she will be most successful and imo that is the left side. I don’t wanna get into a spat with any McKenna die hards but I feel like if she was really that great of an attacker they would have used her like they use Landfair in the back row. Landfair is clearly back there to be a back row attack option and that is it😂I understand that next year her defense will be better because of this season but they could have put McKenna in that position if they really felt she was going to make a serious impact this season.
It’d be difficult to change up the rotation with such little season left but I just know that once the girls find a rotation that feels good to them, they’ll be a serious contender.

Landfair is clearly back there to be a back row attack option and that is it😂 landfair is 3 years older and has multiple years of experience playing for a top 10 team and against some of the best to ever play in the NCAA, McKenna was cleared to start playing volleyball again after missing all of preseason training like two months ago. it would be very rare for a freshman OH to be able to put a ball away more effectively than lanfair can at this point

I was using the same logic while trying to explain why I feel Jenna should play outside before McKenna! I wasn’t able to put it into words as well as you did. Thank you!

Since Davis missed half the season due to injury, I don't think they have had time to develop a connection between one of the middles and Shaffmaster on the right let alone convert one of the middles to a right side. I'm pretty confident they have tried one of them as a blocking sub in practice and I would guess that if it was better than Jenna or Crowl we would have seen it already, but you never know.

Is anyone else also surprised that the Gopher still stay put at #9 for the AVCA ranking this week? I have the feeling that they will be seeded in the 9-12 range (at the lower end) this Sunday even though their current RPI is 13.

I guess where they end up will depend if we can show some competitiveness during this weekends matches.
I'd really like to win against OSU; they whooped us the first time so I'd like to see us give them all we got.
