How many times has Hugh expressed how he wants his players to become better versions of themselves, while playing at Minnesota, and the importance it is in their future outside of the NCAA Volleyball World.
I truly applaud him for that. However, IMO you cannot hang your hat on only that philosophy, when it comes to coaching. Sometimes I feel that is what we witness in these matches.

As much as I have enjoyed the McCutcheon era I look forward to a coaching approach that recognizes that low risk = low reward come tourney time OSU had a ton of service errors, but their SO% overcame those gifts. OSU 3 aces 14 errors MN 4 aces 2 errors I will opine that OSU was the better serving team because their service pressure led to many more points in transition YES to all of this.

Disappointing end, but congrats to OSU. Londot went apesh!t. Wenaas had herself a night as well, like she hit a groove at RS finally in the last few weeks. Booth uncharacteristically struggled on offense but still put up a wall. There were a lot more BHEs which seemed uncharacteristic and happened in a big sputter.
Now we wait to see who the new coach is. Wondering if they waited for the season to end or if they're waiting on something else like the AA banquet.

Thanks for the fun year Gophers. Great team and individual performances along the way. There is some unbelievable talent on this team, but it wasn't our year. Excited for the future of this team and a new coaching staff. Wish List: - Renewed focus on defense. Add 2-3 transfer back row players. Landfair shouldn't be playing back row. - Retain all high-end talent, of course. Duh. - New coach. Let's roll with a new coaching philosophy and leadership. Excited to see how the players respond. The program is in great shape, let's keep building it. If landfair doesn’t get to play back row, she will transfer. Just like in her club days.

Sad to see the season come to an end but still loved this team, and lots of love for Hugh. Honestly very excited for next year. Feels like anything could happen and there’s a lot of energy around some changes.. hopefully most of those changes are coaching personnel changes and not player changes.. but coming away from this year with a Shaff who has become one of the top setters in the league, a TayLa who was player of the year in her Freshman 2.0 season technically, and one of the best middle freshman and outside freshman in the country. Just a TON to look forward to

Honestly as someone who had to step away from the sport because of mental health/performance anxiety/burnout reasons, it’s so refreshing to see coaches like Hugh (I’d put JFlo and Mary Wise and some others in the same category). Coaches that seem to genuinely have their players best interests in mind over results. Yea it’s frustrating as a fan and I’m not saying Hugh doesn’t care about winning (I’m sure he does) but these are 18-23 year old people, some times it is good to teach them that they are valued even if they don’t win championships EVERY year. Also I look at the success of gopher alums, SWP, the tapps, Santana, Samedy… there’s just a huge list of players that Hugh coached that did become GREAT players and have continued to have tons of success internationally/professionally, which also counts for something. He clearly makes players better and it definitely seems like players want to play for him, and that will def be missed.

Just look at the Tea thread and all the programs that don't look out for their athletes. Winning is great but not if the culture is sour. Hugh's developed many nice players and has a stranglehold on B10 POYs for the last 7(?) years.

The only place where people are criticized are on the site. And considering how often they are proved wrong I don't pay a lot of attention to them.

My vote for the new coach is. Kirsten Bernthal Booth Would love to have her, I don’t think she’s leaving Creighton though sadly. It will most likely be Houk, at least for a year to see how he does

I really wish we’d been sent as the 2 seed to Palo Alto. This Kentucky match up would’ve suited us as well as Stanford.

I truly don’t see him getting it Well they already referred to him as the Interim HC on the broadcast so unless they already hired someone, right now he’s it He is the interim head coach but they announced that he would be when they made the announcement that Hugh was leaving so that tells us nothing.
