I love how you guys forget that the Gophers have a 6'7" middle of their own that will soon be on the scene. She was good enough to make the U18 team that won gold in Egypt as well as good enough to be on Hugh's radar.
We could be in for some great middle battles in a couple of years or sooner.

How do programs draw 18-20 players to their programs? Then keep players for 4-5 years who for the most part don't get playing time, but appear to be happy to do that. Also, ome of these programs utilize the transfer portal quite well to satisfy their need to fill certain positions and could be doing this year after year.
Here at Minnesota our roster doesn't usually reach those numbers and I understand that Hugh favors smaller rosters. However, he doesn't access the portal too much either. Add COVID to that and injury/health issues and you have seen us struggle through a couple of really tough seasons.
How much does scholarship distribution play into any coaches decisions when it comes to these two issues....roster size and accessing of the transfer portal? If I understand this correctly, are some elite programs offering more two year instead of four year scholarships to top recruits...In other words, spreading their wealth around more?

Just when you started to breath a sigh of relief for no more Rettke OUT POPS SMREK oof, 3 more years! speaking of which, cut and paste the Hilley to Smrek set heights and locations from the Louisville match and send it to the Gopher coaches. The player you are referring to is Smrettke!🤣. (sorry for the intrusion)

Is there going to be a Big Ten/Big 12 challenge in Minnesota this fall?
Love to come to the Twin cities to root for Big Ten.

Crawford just entered the portal. MN should definitely go after her. She would be a huge get and she has many years of eligibility left.

We have no idea what’s realistic and what’s not at this point, but put yourself in Hugh’s shoes. Who’s atop the wishlist between the 3 of Fields/Hord/Crawford with the one open scholarship right now?

My heart says Hord but Crawford would be better because she would have multiple years, she’s already good and will continue to get better. Obviously Fields would be great too but we have a lot of good pins. Who’s to say any of them choose MN, we can only hope

Mostly because this team is a few years away from being most dangerous imo and I want someone who can grow with our nucleus of Wenaas, Wucherer, Landfair, Shaffmaster, Booth, etc.

do you think she'll play for AU instead of going overseas?

IDK. First, the scholarship. Coaching staff often knows of transfers long before we do (not always, I know.) Rubright's scholarship may have gone to one of two incoming setters, for example, or a player on the team who didn't previously have one. Also, I was looking forward to seeing our two talls, Wolf and Booth, duke it out for the second middle position. I really thought Huseman showed significant improvement in the limited amount of playing time she had this year. That being said, if Minnesota does go after a transfer player I hope they pick one up that has a little fire and is a team player. Gophers seemed to have some good chemistry this year and I would love for that to continue.
