I asked a question in another thread pertaining to Covid 5th year and got this response from robtearle.... Athletes who competed during the 2020-2021 year for fall and winter sports, or the spring season of the 2019-2020 year for spring sports were granted an extra year of eligibility and an additional year on their time 'window' during which to use that extra year of eligibility. That is, those athletes went from having the usual 'four years of eligibility and a five year window' to 'five years of eligibility and a six year window'. Freshmen VB players playing during the fall 2021 season do NOT qualify for the 'bonus COVID year'. Athletes attending schools that did not compete during that 2020-2021 fall season - the entire Ivy League, for example - do not qualify. A freshman in the 2020 season - for VB largely held in the spring of 2021 - will generally have eligibility through 2024 (or 2025 if they take a redshirt year or suffer a medical hardship year, etc.) ___________ So, to understand the Gopher player situations correctly, the only PRESENT players eligible for their 5th year are Kilkelly and Husemann. It appears our incoming Freshman could not be granted that 5th year for COVID and all upperclassman on the roster back in the fall of 2020 have transferred or graduated. I am now hoping I completely understand this rule. I know CC is in her 5th year. Go ahead and correct me, if I am wrong Gopher fans. No. Wenaas gets an extra year, Landfair gets an extra year, Shaffmaster gets an extra year. McGraw is getting an extra year, that's why she's eligible for fall 2022. And on and on. Samedy got an extra year; it was the 2021 fall season. Ignoring the possibility of medical hardship years, past and future (Landfair, eg): Freshman in 2017 completed eligibility in 2021 Freshman in 2018 completes eligibility in 2022 Freshman in 2019 completes eligibility in 2023 Freshman in 2020 completes eligibility in 2024 Freshman in 2021 completes eligibility also in 2024

Jenna Wenaas gave an interview on the podcast The Sports Mecca. Her episode is number 65.

I will be missing the girls who transferred. From the very little I saw of Wolf, I thought she had what it would take to start at Minnesota some day. Glenn was fun to watch.
On the other hand I look forward to seeing the new players in the fall.
I tried to update the OP but I'm sure I missed a couple of things - let me know.

Who is the tallest female volleyball player? There's a player at Univ of Illinois-Chicago who is listed at 6' 10". Salma Abdelhady. I got to see her in person this spring vs Wisconsin. She was OK. Doesn't move as well as Rettke or Smrek, but does OK. More 'punches' the ball more than full swings, but can still generate some good speed nevertheless.

I'm guessing what this really is, is that she has officially enrolled for summer semester. She was not here this spring semester, I assume in order to finish her degree at MSU.
So, it's not correct to say that she just "signed" with the Gophers. There was nothing to actually sign. As far as I know, there is no NLI program for transfers. More or less, she simply "agreed in principle" some months ago that she would enroll here after the spring and join the team.

Based on Wisconsin’s released non conference schedule, the Gophers will be vs Baylor and @ TCU on 8/26 and 8/27. Florida plays at Wisconsin 9/16. I wonder if they might swing by while they’re in the area. That last weekend is usually the Diet Coke Classic though, so maybe not.
Eager to see if Florida and Texas are still on the schedule and who will be at the Diet Coke classic! Go gophers!
(PS official welcome to Gros and all the best to Glenn!)
