Every player is different when it comes to deciding if redshirting is best for them; and, it doesn't just apply to true freshmen.
With the transfer portal, it's getting rare for players to stay all 4 years at one school, let alone 5 years. And, for elite players who are so used to being on the court playing competitive high school / club volleyball matches, it has to be difficult to not play competitively for an entire collegiate season. For players that are also attending school far away from home/family, that's also another adjustment to be handle in addition to redshirting.
Other than Asjia and Brionne, I don't think Texas has redshirted many players in the last decade; but, my memory fails me at times.

For players that are also attending school far away from home/family, that's also another adjustment to be handle in addition to redshirting. Other than Asjia and Brionne, I don't think Texas has redshirted many players in the last decade; but, my memory fails me at times. In the last five years, I believe the only other redshirt was Madison Williams last season. Micaya White redshirted in 2015 due to injury and Ebony was a medical redshirt that same year. I think Fisbeck must have redshirted one year because I believe she was a redshirt senior when she transferred to Alabama. There was a discussion on MB redshirts a few weeks ago and seems there were a handful of others during Elliott's tenure. After Brionne and Asjia redshirted, one could conjecture that Molly might have redshirted in 2019 if Brionne had been healthy all year. With only 12 scholarship players, I think it's difficult to redshirt in volleyball. Even a number of incoming freshmen are at least needed as a primary back-up because you don't have the deep depth to redshirt more than the occasional freshman. Likely a fairly high % of redshirts are due to injury.

I don't know how many of y'all are following along with Chiaka's pro career, but she just wrapped up (likely) some of the most successful seasons/periods of time in history, winning:
VNL and Olympics gold medals (2021 summer) whole slew of Turkish cups and league titles as well as Champions League Title with Vakifbank Istanbul (2021-22)
and now she's probably going to be a starter for the USA this summer. go Chi!

How good of a middle blocker is she on the pro circuit? Obviously really good, but I was wondering where she ranks? She was such a force at Texas. I’m glad she’s doing well. Hopefully Brionne can have that same impact, too. Edit - It’s been so fulfilling seeing her return to Gregory Gym, as well. She’s fun to root for!

Not because she isn’t good enough but because of foreigner limits. She’s a top 10 middle in the world but closer to 10 imo than 1

Bit of a disappointing interview regarding Jhenna as a subject. She didn’t get nearly the air time. We didn’t get to hear her sing. She didn’t say anything juicy about not coming back for a fifth season. Most importantly, she didn’t touch on throwing shade at volleytalk upon her exit. The whole thing seemed a bit odd. What were they doing all together in Winston, NC? I can’t imagine the podcast flew them out there. Thank you for the link. I hope Jhenna gets some experience playing overseas like she wants.

They do camps with Jhenna, Micah Ma’a and Nicklin Hames. Hames was supposed to be working the camp instead of Kalei Mau but that got changed sometime last week. They were somewhere in California last week doing a camp
