That was a brain slip lol..yeah Stanford should be in that group too. I'm sure I'll have to eat these words, but I don't see Stanford getting significantly better unless they dramatically improve their first contact. I haven't heard of any reason to believe that will happen. EDIT: But the expected drop of Utah and WSU may leave Stanford in contention anyway. Well Stanford seems to be overhyped the past season or two, so I don't think it is too unreasonable to not see them improve a lot, but it will be dependent on how well their freshmen players entering are. I don't see them in the top 3, but I do see them in the upper group. Utah drop is definite. I don't see WSU dropping much.

Is WSU still a top contender after losing Tusa and Pukis? Ung is solid but no Pukis and Shea allows Kaylah to move to the pin but she hasn’t played there in years and can’t be expected to pass at all I don't see WSU dropping much. They still have strong weapons, and Ung is a quality setter. They return most of their team. My mistake. If Timmer is expected to fully recover, they'll be fine.

I don’t think they’ll necessarily drop much, if at all, but they finished 6th last year and will most likely be “worse”, even if by a slim margin. Hard to say they’ll be in contention to me but you’re right, they are returning almost all of their team. That most definitely counts for something. Well technically 6th, but record was tied for 4th. Plus, they would have finished higher, IMO, if Timmer hadn't gotten injured.

Random side note: Jen Greeny not only has to be one of the nicest coaches I’ve ever met, but one of the nicest people. I can 1000% see how she gets people to come to Pullman. Plus, she IS Washington State volleyball. Almost all of their success has had her in it, whether as a player or coach. I would work for her in 2 seconds.

I would say however, that I'm sure myself, and many others, who root for an underdog team, like a comeback story. Thus, I would love to see AZ, ASU, CAL, COL, or OSU get (back) to the top group. That happening this year seems unlikely, but hopefully at some point soon.

It's very clear that to maximize seeds in the tournament, we need the top half of the conference to not take losses to the bottom half.

EDIT: But the expected drop of Utah and WSU may leave Stanford in contention anyway. but it's not just about getting "significantly better", it's also relative to what other teams in conference are doing. UCLA, Utah, Washington, Oregon all lose key contributors. Among the top half of the conference, Stanford is the team with the least amount of turnover. If Stanford improves slightly and the other teams regress slightly, that automatically puts Stanford in contention.

Some people have expressed quite the opposite. she spent her entire serve and pass at arizona chatting with me and another manager. maybe she was nice because I gave her of credit and compliments off the bat (being 100% serious too, what she’s done at WSU is extremely impressive). I don’t think that was it though. she seemed genuinely nice to me. not a lot of coaches even look at managers as people, much less ones to talk to🤣 kind of one of those things where you can judge a person’s character on how they treat waiters!

I'm not saying I would want every team to be strong and have them all beat up on each other. I'm saying it would be nice to see those schools have strong years, thus that would mean likely that some of the current top teams would not have strong years those years.

Fields confirmed to USC via instagram. IMO this just made USC a major contender for the PAC title.

Botkin definitely contributed to the passing. Hammons did what she could when given the opportunity. But they definitely lost a huge portion of their passing with the only experienced player returning being Hastings, I believe. Maybe Barra? @bigwestfan2 -- any enlightenment?
