I had absolutely no horse in this race and have no connection to Fisher but am really pleased to see that he landed a long contract extension as a result of this process. Very cool to see someone exercise leverage when they've got it and get rewarded for their good work.

Only a one-year extension?

Only a one-year extension? Maybe his own doing - so he can negotiate again (or leave more easily if need be)? Also, there's the PR angle - in the VB community, lots of people thought Fisher-PSU. This is a good press release for "Nope, not PSU, he's staying, you can feel comfortable recruits."

Then name the names of who lied to you. nobody lied to me. The second he pulled out they told me he pulled out and I posted here If you say so. But you posted that it was Fisher, it was a done deal, and was about to be announced. Announcements don't happen unless a deal was signed. If a deal was signed, Fisher can't just change his mind. So either you were imprecise in conveying what was told you or someone lied. EDIT: And I'm not criticizing you. Others posted that the offer was accepted and an announcement was imminent. Someone was spreading bad info and should be named and shamed.

They are credible. That contract extension came out at the time the announcement was schedule. It was DAMN close.

Fisher must have attended the Keegan Cook school of contract negotiation tactics.

I'm sure you know this, but someone can verbally accept an offer but then change their mind before signing anything legally binding. Or maybe they can accept a job in principle, but it falls apart while the contract is being negotiated. For example, Jaime Dixon accepted the UCLA head coaching job, but then it turned out that UCLA wasn't willing to pay his $8 million buyout, so the deal fell apart. I don't think Madden said anything that was untrue at the time.

Then whomever was conveying the information should have said the parties have a deal in principle but the details have to be worked out. People were much more definite than that and should be named and shamed. EDIT: and some posters have gone back and deleted posts.

This is a good press release for "Nope, not PSU, he's staying, you can feel comfortable recruits." My guess is he got a whole lot more money in the meantime, and they tack on a year so they don’t have to address that in the press release. So yea, it’s an extension, but really it’s just a big raise.

Big difference betweeen the contract is signed and we have reached an aggreement.

I still don't think PSU is going to mess this up.
Fisher stayed at Pitt because he likes it there. Sure, we can assume they gave him more money. But I would guess PSU could have offered the same, or maybe did.
In the interim, PSU does have a coach with head coaching experience.
