Also, why isn’t there a little bio for Sydnie or Journey?

from what I understand, they are working to get that year back I was going to ask if she was applying for a medical redshirt. That would give her three years because of Covid? I feel like I asked this already hahaha I think she’s only gonna do two years? I don’t know if she wants/is going to apply for the medical redshirt, but I think the team would obviously like her to if she was willing haha. not sure if she will though. I meant azvb when I said “they”, not necessarily her, oops

Are there any rumors about who we might hire as the third assistant?

Are there any rumors about who we might hire as the third assistant? No. To be honest, rumors about coaching and Arizona volleyball have never really been common. In the past, Dave just hired people he knew most of the time. You never really knew who it would be, but guessing that it would be a former Arizona manager was usually on track. Rita isn't really sticking with that. It doesn't have to be someone she knows well, as we saw with Windisch. It has to be someone who has something she feels she lacks. It's much more complicated to track that. Someone has to leak it, and that doesn't typically happen until days before the official announcement. If I had to guess, it would be someone who could focus on setters. Windisch is doing that now from what I understand, but she might want someone who has experience as a setter. She made me feel like it's the one position group that she doesn't want to do herself. I would guess it will be a man. It's really a bummer that Dave fired Lauren Plum. She would be great about now.

Sad to see Becca Morse is medically retiring, I was looking forward to cheering for her at UA! Looks like she's heading into nursing- wishing her the best of luck!

Although Arizona had 10 players listed on DS/L on the roster, she was probably the class of the lot. Expected her to be the starting libero. Unfortunate for both her and the Wildcats that she has to medically retire, but I'm glad she's in a good nursing school and on to the next phase of her life. Now, we have to see who steps into that role. Joy Galles?

Thats a big backrow loss not having Morse. So now its between: Joy Galles (SR), Ava Tortorello (JR), Haven Wray (JR), Kaori Robertson (JR), Kylie Wong (SO), Laura Detweiler (FR), Ania Swatzendruber (FR), McKenzie Shoenhardt (FR), Giorgia Mandotti (FR).
You'd think it is up for grabs, but Galles or a FR hopefully shines. The others are more DS/serving sub options it seems.

I’ll post a condensed and edited version of a message I sent someone yesterday:
“the way I see it, there’s four options, and I think they’re all just as likely as the next:
Joy: the way she played in the gym her sophomore year was absolutely insane. almost Hiapo level. while she took the semester off, I hope that it gave her a mental health reset and is able to regain the confidence she once had, now with Rita. there might be a little rust to shake off, but if we get her in the right headspace, she’s the real deal.
Mandotti: look, I don’t know anything about this girl. I think she might’ve been the backup on her team in the Italian third league. it’s not super ‘enticing’ to read when you see Washington State recruit the backup libero from a team in the FIRST league (who actually got some playing time too). that being said, think about it this way, she’s probably a top 75 libero in the entire country of Italy, no matter the age? that wouldn’t be a bad libero if we considered the top 75 liberos in the entire United States… idk
Other Freshman: I don’t know anything about them, in fact, most probably know more. But I could see the appeal of starting a freshman libero if one of them stands out. You get four years to build and grow them. But we’ll probably need a DS for Jordan Wilson, so maybe that’s where we throw a freshman instead? I think Ania would have the best chance?
Dark Horse, Ava Tortorello: She’s determined, she’s a fighter, and she has the work ethic to do it. She will spend whatever amount of time in the gym to get it. The question will be is if she can pass well enough to get there in this amount of time. And she can be really hard on herself too, but it’s because she wants to be great. She’ll have the automatic upper hand on second touches too. Her hands are butter.”

Rita had good things to say about Ania on signing day. I talked to her about the littles then. Dave said she was the one who knew about them. She liked the mental aspects of Ania, especially.

I'd hope she didn't move into the libero/ds role just to play backup in both positions. Regardless, there is next to zero game experience in the setting and libero position next season. And thats going to spell trouble for them. Its a bummer because they have arguably some of the best pins in the conference
