All things being equal, and ignoring the whole spending the huge chunk of your adult life at Penn State thing, I think I'd rather be the head coach at Notre Dame right now.

Pretty much. The only P5 schools with larger endowments than Notre Dame are Stanford and Texas A&M. And before anyone brings it up, yes I'm aware that there are restrictions on endowments, but it still speaks to just how wealthy of a university Notre Dame is.

Edit: apologies to Texas. The list I looked at when I Googled Notre Dame's endowment didn't include Texas for some reason. I'm not sure why.

Bloop! This is honestly so surprising to me, if not to those VTers who are more plugged in.

Beyond the specifics of the deal ($$), do you think, at all, that Rockwell believes (1) she's done enough with Penn State, historic stuff, championship-winning stuff, and (2) following SUCH a legend is just so unforgiving. Plus she's tied to PSU in so many ways, and just may want to chart a new course. This all just for discussion's sake. I obviously don't know her motivations.

Also, very smart move for Rockwell. Why try and follow in the footsteps of the great Russ Rose when you can forge your own legacy? The likely result was that she was not going to be able to match his greatness, probably not even come close. So rather than always living in the shadow of Russ Rose’s accomplishments, she gets to have a clean slate. It’s going to be much easier to recruit to Notre Dame.

Oh, they are certainly in the upper tier but probably are outside the top 10 in terms of athletics revenue. They absolutely leave money on the table with their TV deal. Schools like Texas and SEC/Big 10 are truly rolling in it in a way Notre Dame isn't.
