That would be awful… it’s not that hard to call a double. If my setter is setting dimes all match and the opposing setter is making double contact consistently, that’s on the other team. Would hate to see the rule be taken away.

Not saying I agree with this proposed change, but different refs have wildly different degrees of what they think is or isn't a double.

I'd be in favor of the no double call unless you double it when sending it over. If your setter is doubling all the time, it's your team that suffers anyways from the poor setting. It has basically gone this way in the men's game, and it makes for a better game with less eyes/concern on the quality and how clean the set is, and let the players play.

I think alot of parents would need therapy if they can't scream DOUBLE every two seconds.

also...only the head coach can address refs now?
that seems like a very strong message.

Not saying I agree with this proposed change, but different refs have wildly different degrees of what they think is or isn't a double. I didn't agree with that rule change until this year's tournament. My old opinion was that poorly called doubles was a reffing problem and not a rule problem. I believe that good refs would be consistent, and anyone that was not consistent was simply not a good ref. However, after watching how dramatically different officials in the Sweet 16 were calling them, I understand now. One very good official was not calling them unless they were two separate attempts to touch the ball, and one official who was apparently good enough to R1 a match of that importance was calling a double any time a setter looked at the ball wrong. That's not right. I had thought there was an emphasis placed on loosening up on doubles to allow for more entertaining rallies in the past 5 years, but apparently some officials did not get the memo so I've come to terms with the need to simply remove the call.

Bottom line: if your setter has great hands, you hate the rule change. If your setter is a little more sketchy, you love it.
