I don't agree with this rule change, you'll know when it's a double. This is crazy, especially because you want to see if it relieves pressure off the referees to make controversial double contact calls in critical moments of a match.

Nothing on throws? Disappointed. This is a subjective call. Officials could absolutely make the decision to call these tighter (or looser) without the rule changing. The rule is already that you can’t throw the ball. So it’s just up to the top officials in the game to set the standard and for everybody else to follow.

Nothing on throws? Disappointed. it’s too big of a slippery slope. they start banning those “throws” and one handed setter dumps no longer exist Throws are against the rules, the rule is not always enforced.
14.2.2 Caught or Thrown Ball The ball must be hit cleanly and not caught or thrown. Prolonged contact with the ball is a fault. The ball can rebound in any direction.

By the way, the experimental double rule was scheduled to happen in Spring 2020. Then the world shut down.

I enjoy volleyball for a lot of reasons but one of them is the high skill level necessary to excel at this sport. These types of changes are not good for the sport and just allows poor play to flourish. . So you thought poor play was flourishing at the Olympics, where they call the game MUCH looser than they do at the college level? it’s definitely much looser at the international level. Even the u18s and u20s

I think alot of parents would need therapy if they can't scream DOUBLE every two seconds. That will still be permitted.

So you thought poor play was flourishing at the Olympics, where they call the game MUCH looser than they do at the college level? Much looser? The throw calls at the Olympics were not loose at all. They were absolutely absurd. Eggleston would have been called at least a throw or two per match this season. I will say I had not seen this from FIVB before. Then again, they also started cracking down on USA (and others) being twenty feet out of rotation, so, maybe they're changing slightly.

I always wonder if a college ref would’ve called Logan Tom’s incredible full court running, sliding back set a double because the ball rotated in the air about a full rotation lol

(The post I was referencing made the common argument about skill being taken away from the game if you don’t call doubles)

Dear lord the stuff we’re about to see middles do on setter digs lol One year, some time ago, USC's system was actually for Bateman to dig to the middles, and the middles would set the pins when she took the first ball. I don't think I've seen any team (at least of decent level) use this system recently.
