"I turn the sound off on a lot of matches as it is already."
Same, Russ, same.

Russ, tell us what you really think of the portal...
Pretty interesting.

Russ, tell us what you really think of the portal... Pretty interesting. But that's the thing about Russ: He always tells it like he sees it. As I've read through the posts on the various Russ-Retirement threads that have described him as arrogant (not suggesting that your post is doing any such thing) the thought that has come to mind is that he's not arrogant at all -- quite the contrary. I have never heard him brag about his accomplishments -- it was always about the team and the players. But he is blunt. And acerbic. And sarcastic. And, honest -- sometimes brutally honest. That's not a skill set that appeals to everyone. But it absolutely does not add up to arrogance, in my opinion.

I welcome frank discussions about the portal. I tend to like the change - but can be convinced otherwise. He may have said this publicly w/o retirement - but I suspect retirement can unleash him.

I like the idea of the portal too -- I was a D1 athlete in track, and never liked the restrictions that the NCAA put on "student-athletes." But I can see that the portal introduces challenges for coaches that they might not choose to introduce to the system.

Interesting comment that he won't practice golf because he likes to play and wants it to be fun.

Confirming a lot of VT suspicions:
“Did you have a chance to provide your input during the hiring process?
‘I spoke with Sandy [Barbour] and Lauren [Rhodes] and the search firm on maybe the initial call, and then after that, I wasn’t involved at all.’”

That's not the kind of transition one would expect from a volleyball superpower.

I believe it was very impactful.

If you say so. But if that were the case, wouldn’t his answer to the question “did you have input” be “yes.”

Rose appears to have had almost no impact on the hiring process. One initial call with the search firm, and no other input? That's what you get from your four-decade veteran coach? That's odd.
