Great hire- I’m excited for this new chapter for MSU.
Now that the cat is out of the bag- I wonder who else was in the running.

She will be greatly missed at ISU. The girls are devastated. MSU players will love her.

Is this enough to keep Celia Cullen in East Lansing?

Is this enough to keep Celia Cullen in East Lansing? I wonder. MSU was in a really weird spot with having two good setters in Cullen and Bishop one year apart. Cullen didn’t outright win the setter job for either of her two seasons which I always thought was strange for how highly touted she was. I was wondering about this and never got an answer. If an athlete is in the portal, are they automatically excluded from the spring season? Cullen is not listed for the spring roster, so is she already gone? Lots of talk about Cullen on the Texas 2022 thread. Not sure if it is all hope for Texas fans or if there is any substance to it.

I believe what exactly happens to a player once they enter the portal is decision made by the coaching staff. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

What I was told is that if an athlete enters the Portal then decides to stay at the current school, it's in the current school's coaching staff's right to decide whether to welcome the athlete back or not (with or without a scholarship).

Lots of talk about Cullen on the Texas 2022 thread. Not sure if it is all hope for Texas fans or if there is any substance to it. At this point, it was all wishful thinking. It started when Jhenna Gabriel announced that she wasn't returning for her fifth year and Cullen was considered the best setter available in the portal. So some started talking about her. However I wouldn't consider what was written about her to be a "lot of talk".

I admire the ADs pre-emtive effort to keep her. total speculation: did one job come knocking, ISU countered with the extension and Leah didn’t feel the other job was worth it (maybe Iowa). Then Cathy retired, MSU came knocking and offered more and a better situation than the previous school that was knocking, and this time Leah felt it was worth it. Again, total speculation! Based off the contract extension announcement coming a day before Cathy retired, the extension had to of been in works for a few days at least Yes, she was finalist at TCU I heard.

No one knows anything "insider-ish" among Texas fans. souther is the one who always posts the cryptic hints about big news. I love my fellow Texas fans, but we rely on decoding social media follows, and as we saw with Hord that doesn't always work out the way we want it to.

Curious to know length of contract, this is no easy job. They struggled last year and their best player by a mile just went in conference. It’s a great hire but hope she can get some momentum so she is there to stay
