Was it not saved and brought back outside the antenna? That should be legal, no? does it go outside the antenna on the initial block? I cant tell (or is that not a thing lol) If the ball went outside the antenna after the block touch and after the save, it was legal.

i was so confused when i saw this during the match as well. i thought the ball rebounded within the antenna but was brought back outside the boundaries, which is already illegal, but can you even save a ball off your block that went back towards the opponent's side of the court? i was having an internal crisis lol. i watched bartsch-hackley try and save balls of her block as well and i only saw it a pointless pursuit, but maybe it's allowed? please educate me. Offside pursuit rules are also very liberal. You're allowed to go under/around the net always if you're not inside the opponent's side of the court. It's even legal to be on the opponent's side of the court so long as you are not hindering a block (fairly subjective) and your entire foot is not past the midline. There have been hilarious moments where a libero dives to save a ball, his entire body is on the opponent's side, and he kind of booty crawls back to make sure his foot doesn't graze the floor. One additional point is that if you pursue a ball out-of-bounds on the other side of the net, the opponent cannot deliberately block your path. Zhu Ting actually got called for being in the way in some really high-stakes match when it appeared she was preventing opponent pursuit.

Oh, yeah now I actually think you're right. The trajectory of the ball after the foot save seems very clearly outside of the antenna.

I feel like for that to be legal the ball needs to go off the block onto Milano's side and then magically curve back over the net outside of the antenna

Unless it’s one of those blocks where they’re reach and drifting off the net a ton.

I think Orro kicked the ball randomly. I don't think she intended to keep it in play. In my opinion the action is regular. Orro intercepted the ball with her right arm and she was very close to the line. Someone objected that she then touched the net but in Italy you can touch the outside parts of the net (Orro has both feet well off the court).

For instance if the blocker is late/drifting and the hitter is swinging at a "tool" angle. Unlikely but theoretically possible.
