Trying to remember back to last year, but I don’t think A1 did this play-out for 5-8th place…. Why? The players just want to be done, there is no real ticket revenue/attendance. Maybe there is some incremental revenue from advertising sponsors, but how many people are really watching?

This particular (dumb) format has been approved by all the clubs, so I think they were expecting more attendance (= more incomes). Not a good idea scheduling it between Apr 25th and May 1st (in Italy these are holidays and many people go on vacation). Also, these matches are not included in the season-tickets… so… That being said, I think that post-rs positional matches, in a short and decent format, are a good thing. |
