No article but fans seemed to be outraged on Twitter. Apparently newly hired Grambling State head coach and alum Chelsey Lucas cut their entire GSU roster to make room to bring in her players from Arkansas Pine Bluff

Grambling allowing some wild stuff to go down in its athletic department recently, like trying to hire Art Briles onto the football staff. Crazy town.

Do they not have to honor their scholarship agreements; Isn't there some kind of written agreement?

I believe it is only the P5 schools that agreed years ago to honor scholarships for a full four years. At the rest of the schools, I assume they are still year by year. If I was the NCAA, I would be on the phone immediately to Grambling's leadership. This is bound to end in a lawsuit and that's the last thing the NCAA needs is another player(s) lawsuit. I wonder if this coach is going for a clean sweep of SWAC HC jobs. This is her third college HC job and all three have been at SWAC schools.

But like at most employers, at will employees doing a competent job don't get separated "at will". Most coaches don't just cut players that are giving good efforts, taking care of their academics, and no off the court problems. You get a reputation for doing that and it has a tendency to negatively impact recruiting.

Most colleges have internal policies that would not allow this, even though it is allowed by NCAA rules.

I doubt that this decision was made without tacit approval from the administration/leadership, and legal counsel. Doubtful that legal challenges will be successful. Still, ridiculous and maybe self destructive in my opinion.

The fact that that fell through was maybe the least surprising athletic development in quite some time. The fact that they tried it was sheer lunacy.

She mentions a 'culture shift' in this post about hiring an AC. More than a 'shift', I'd say.
