First impressions...
This will massively benefit CEV. No longer using continental champions as hosts is a big deal.
This is going to take the second spot away from CSV and the third spot from AVC away.
The DR needs to keep its ranking to hold its place.

Europe gets a massive advantage (in terms of ranking points) through the Euros. All of those matches add up.
I'd like to see NORCECA explore their championship format to maximize the number of points for the best teams.
If federations are smart, they would skip events like the Pan Ams, if they're not sending a full team.
The Pan Ams/NORCECAs for USAV last fall took a lot of points away.

I love this. Let's arrange the teams into the three pools if the tournament were to occur this season. For funsies, lets award the top three ranked teams (USA, BRA and CHN) as hosts.
Pool A: USA* ITA* DOM# POL# BEL# CAN THA MEX
Pool B: BRA* SRB* RUS* GER# KOR PUR CMR CRO
Pool C: CHN* TUR* JPN# NED# BUL COL ARG CZE
* = Favorites # = Dark Horse
Teams are really going to want to be hosts. Also, the VNL really must become THE focal point for teams to improve their world ranking.
By the end of this process I fully expect there to be 4 CEV teams (including hosts, France) along with USA, BRA and CHN that will have qualified. Let's assume the other qualified teams are Italy, Serbia and Turkey. After that it definitely gets dicey. Cameroon would get the nod since they are the highest ranked CAVB team and Africa doesn't have a qualified team yet. Then, based on the current world rankings the last 4 teams qualified would be Dominicana, Russia, Japan and The Netherlands.
6 CEV, 2 NOR, 2 AVC, 1 CSV and 1 CAVB. Japan and Dominicana cannot afford to have a bad VNL. Good thing there are 3 between now and the Paris Games.
Basically, teams that aren't qualified for the VNL will probably miss out on qualifying for the Olympics if I read the qualification process correctly.
FIVB should expand the Challenger Cup if they hope to keep this format after this quad.

Japan will 95% most likely be a host of one of the IOQTs.
Ranking 1/2 should be the other hosts, to give encouragement for them to compete. (they will most likely be qualified anyways given their original ranking)

I definitely want USA and Brazil to host so that we can watch 2/3rds of the matches in decent time zones.

FIVB still has to maintain that contract. I will bet one host is European (just cause of the costs) China would probably be the other... cause money.
