17-18 and Cannon has to put the next two serves over standing flatfooted due to poor ball control. Toni/Simo get game 1, incredible comeback. From the time Sponcil got 14, the youngsters went on a 13-3 run Wow. Wish i had three screens to watch right now. All three appealing matches. |

Also if anyone saw the shoot that Sander hit early in the first set. Wowsers! He had about 3 jaw droppers before the first technical.

Tough loss for the youngsters. Wouldnt be surprised to see Toni playing with Sponcil fairly soon. Cannon continues to be a mess. Poor passer, blocking not a factor except on very tight sets, Simo was easily digging her hard swings.

I'm liking the You Tube coverage....looking at the men's draw, is this an AARP sponsored event? Some antiques playing in this thing....where is Dr Ono? I want to know what the average age of players in tournaments this year versus 2015; '10; 2000 and '95....

at 5-1 in the 2nd game taryn koth absolutely muffed a set and it wasn't called. the AA tournaments here would have called that.

I've stopped watching the Cannon/Sponcil v. Rodriguez/Simo match at 14-12.
It is too painful. I think Sponcil needs a mental competency exam to prove she's not completely daft for having picked Cannon. Shanked easy serves. Dumped hits off of good sets. Just unwatchable.
Next week after Gulf Shores she needs to pick up someone who can podium on AVP, anyone -- Kraft, Rice, even Callahan ... PLEASE, I'm begging. Elaine Youngs at 52 would be an improvement.
Someone needs to kidnap Sponcil and do an intervention.
