Sill stinging from Padres being swept by the Rockies. Machado still out. Tatis was projected for the end of June, but seems to be indefinite now. No need to rush back. I’m surprised at how far the Padres’ depth has taken them through the first half of the season.

So just finished fourth book in 25 days.....Our Team: The Epic Story of Four Men and the World Series that Changed Baseball by Luke Epplin. It's about Bob Feller, Satchel paige, Larry Doby and Bill Veeck and the 1948 Cleveland Indians. . Great read.
Before that it was Streak: Joe DiMaggio and the Summer of 41 by Michael Seidel
Also, The Greatest Game Ever PItched: Juan Marichal, Warren Spahn and the Pitching Duel of the century by Jim Kaplan
And, as already mentioned earlier in this thread: Dynastic, Bombastic, Fantastic by Jason Turbow on the 1970 Oakland A's Dynasty.
Now on to the Bona Fide Legend of Cool Papa Bell by Lonnie Wheeler.

Ole Miss defeated Oklahoma to win the NCAA baseball title. The poster child for why arguing about the 'last team in' really does matter. There have been posters over the year who argue it's really trivial to have such huge debates about the last team in as they don't end up mattering. Heck, we saw in softball too the run Arizona went on. Sure, that's going to vary by sport as well, but, Ole Miss very well could have been left out of the tournament for NC State. They certainly were holding their breath on selection Sunday. They went all the way. In volleyball, San Diego was a last 4 in team a few years back and made the sweet 16 (they had a crucial injury early in that match and kind of got swept away, but still, they were a factor).

Yeah, there have also been a couple of "First Four to Final Four" teams in the men's basketball tournament (2011 VCU, 2021 UCLA).

Mariners going into the All-Star break on a 14-game win streak.
(And they are still 10 games out of first place in their division.)

Chris Sale finally makes it back and gets his pinkie finger broken by a comebacker! That is going to hurt the Sox shaky wild card chances.

Speaking of the Red Sox how did they give up 28 runs to Toronto? .it was 25-3 by the fifth inning.

Joe Mauer seems like an iffy prospect for the HOF. If he wasn't a catcher he would have no chance, but he was a catcher for his first decade or so.
Compare his stats with Edgar Martinez, who got elected in his very last year of eligibility, and Mauer is ... well, it's not terribly close at all. But of course Martinez was a DH, while Mauer was a catcher, and he's going to get a lot of credit for being a catcher.

They already let Baines and Morris in, so adding another good but not really great player? Sure. You probably ought to advocate for Rick Reuschel though who was better than Parker and way-the-hell better than Jack Morris (especially as a human being)
