interviews about world champs prep. They interviewed Tijana about world championships and not a word about maja and a big focus was on Tijana and Bojana getting to play together and someone close to the program said it’s unlikely that she’ll be with the team there. Who? Because Igor Jagličić, the guy who was interviewing Tijana in what you just referenced, when he interviewed Maja recently, said as long as she is healthy, that she plans to continue until Paris. |

Regarding the debate on the merits of ranking systems, I always said that by far the most important job of this new ranking system is to give as much importance to VNL as FIVB could humanly manage to confer upon it. Every other merit or demerit is entirely accidental (and almost beside the point), from FIVB's perspective.
As for generational players, based on my interactions on Serbian sport forums, if you were to conduct a wide survey in Serbia with the question: "Who is our greatest female volleyball player of all time?", more people would have said Maja than Tijana (though it would be pretty close). Yes, that's partly because she is a beloved figure here (and the fact that Tijana is from Hercegovina would play a not insignificant part among the certain subsection of populace). Given time, I'm sure that Tijana will be recognised as not only the best volleyball player, but our most athletically gifted sportswoman ever, period.

I didn’t think Carol was at that level until this season. we’ll see how she maintains it too. For both Carol and Gabi, neither being named is more of a testament to past Brazilian players than a knock to either of them How do we define generation? Meaning the players didn't play with each other? Or different game - sideout vs rally scoring. Carol is great but too close in time to Thaisa to be deemed once-in-a-generation. But I would say Gabi qualifies. IMO Gabi is better than all the previous OHs of Brazil or at least second to Ana Moser. |

Meaning the players didn't play with each other? Or different game - sideout vs rally scoring. Carol is great but too close in time to Thaisa to be deemed once-in-a-generation. But I would say Gabi qualifies. IMO Gabi is better than all the previous OHs of Brazil or at least second to Ana Moser. There's been way too many amazing outsides for the past 30 years... Diaz, Erika, Mari, Paula P, Natalia, Fe Garay have had incredible moments and some of them over a longer period of time than miss Gabi. That said, Gabi is the it girl right now and I know it's easy to say she's the "best" but it's not like she's exactly new. At the end of the day, I'm not sure she's better than the aforementioned ladies and its really hard to compare different generations. And before we put her at the top she'll have to maintain this level for a lot longer than 2-3 years, imo. For me, Fe Garay was underrated and always came to play but isn't as flashy or charismatic as Gabi. Where Gabi separates herself is her professional career but then again, being on Vakif helps any top player at the time. |

Bosko and Egonu have been world class for years. Gabi has been good but not world class until maybe the last 12-16 months, imo. Zehra also needs to be better over a longer period of time. Eda in a no brainer.
