How does the at-large bids for Open or USA or Liberty distributed at the end of the season? Is it based on how teams have finished in their qualifier (ie. if a team has just missed out on a bid but is always in the gold bracket will get an at-large bid) or is it more complicated than that. I think open is like that but lower levels get pushed down to the regions and I think they make the calls on invites. So maybe highest ranked team within the region gets first dibs on best bid available and so on down the line.

The highest ranking regional team/s (or 2) that does not earn an Open bid will get a National bid to the GJNC. From the Manual;
National Division: Each Region will receive at least one (1) National Bid to award at their discretion for the 13’s – 18’s. As there are a total of 48 Bids to be allocated to 40 Regions, the eight (8) largest Regions based on Girls Junior registrations from the previous season will be awarded a 2nd Bid to the National Divisions at the GJNCs. For 11s, and 12 ‘s, the original allotment of Bids and any reallocation Bids a Region receives depends on the number of 12 and under Girls Junior registrations from the previous season, not on the total number of Girls Junior registrations in the Region. Given there are 40 USAV Regions and only 36 National Bids allocated to Regions not all will receive an allocated Bid. Regions not receiving an automatic Bid will be prioritized in the process of reallocating unused Bids
Thats true on how the allocate the bid numbers but thats not true that the highest ranking team that plays open will get that bid. Here is how Lone Star does it. They have a regional tournament in that the top 50 teams are invited to based on the regions rankings in early May and the winner and runner up gets the national level bids. I have seen teams that played american all year long win that tournament and get a national bid while teams that played open all year long but did not qualify end up with an american bid from the region. Yes, not teams that play open, teams that already have an Open bid. Open Division supersedes National Division. The National bids trickle down to the next Highest ranked, or bid tourney winner etc. =)

AT-LARGE BIDS AWARDED THROUGH USA VOLLEYBALL The USAV Events Department, with the assistance of its Seeding Committee, awards some GJNC Open, USA and Liberty Bids as At-Large Bids. Teams will automatically be considered for an At-Large Bid provided that the Team: • Has played in at least one NQ in the same GJNC Division age group for which the Team is applying (Open, USA or Liberty); • Teams must have at least one finish in the top 50% of an event in the division they want to be considered At- Large for: • Is registered for GJNCs in the GJNCs Event registration system; • Submits accurate and up-to-date electronic results in the GJNCs Event registration system no later than the end of business on the Tuesday after the finish of the last NQ offering their age group. ALL TEAM RESULTS NEED TO BE ENTERED. • Complies with both their Region’s and USAV’s GJNCs deadline dates and meets the requirements listed above. The USAV Events Department will announce the Teams being awarded the GJNCs At-Large Bids no later than the second Tuesday after the last NQ. The Events Department will notify Teams awarded an At-Large Bid by email, sent to the Coach and Club Director at the email addresses provided in the GJNCs Event registration system. For full criteria on how At-Large Bids are awarded please see the GJNC Pre-Tournament Manual on the GJNC website. GJNCS BIDS AWARDED THROUGH A REGION Regions are allocated Bids to three Divisions at the GJNCs – National, American and Freedom. Regions have the authority to establish their own process for awarding these Bids. Bids awarded through a Region must be accepted in writing at or prior to the time of the Bid award

That may be true in some regions but in LS they open it up to all teams without an open bid and they play it out, IE they dont just say well team X is ranked #3 in the region, played open all year, didnt get an open bid so here we as the region are going to give them a national bid. This breaks the actual bids per region down and its based on participation numbers. usavolleyball.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/2023-GJNC-Bid-Allocations-All-Divisions-FINALL.pdf

Anyone have any idea when Windy City schedule will be posted? We’ve gotten a little spoiled with schedules and seeds being posted earlier than normal this season. Hoping Windy City follows that trend! This tournament is run by the Great Lakes Region, right? I wouldn’t expect an early schedule. You weren’t kidding! The website says schedule would be posted “sometime on Tuesday April, 4th.” Here we are on Wednesday, April 5th with no schedule.

Insane, 1st Alliance was close to sweeping the 17s in all divisions. Talk about depth.
17 Gold won Open 17 Silver won USA 17 Black 3rd in Liberty 17 White won American
I am sure it has happened before, but I cannot remember a club ever controlling an age group at a qualifier to this extent. It will be neat to see how they do at nationals.

That is somewhat fair, however we all know the club scene is much different now all over the place. A million clubs are opening everywhere and kids/parents club hop often. The more recently we look, the harder it is to see consistency.

So, with one qualifier left--Far Westerns--there will be two at large bids for 16 Open this year.
I compiled the results for all teams that have appeared in a gold pool so far this year, based on what is in AES. (Since only results in AES are considered for At-Large status, at least as I understand it).
If you look at record vs the Open qualified field-- Legacy is 12-12 vs Open qualified field Mi Elite is 8-10 vs Open qualified field MadFrogs is 6-10 Open qualified field AVA is 4-8 vs Open qualified field
If you look at record vs all non-Open teams that have reached a gold pool this year--- MI Elite is 20-11 Legacy is 18-15 Dynasty is 11-15 AVA is 11-16 MadFrogs is 10-14
I would think, based on this, Legacy and Mi Elite would be the front runners...

I've seen most of the bubble teams at various qualifiers, and only MI Elite and Legacy can compete with the field. The others haven't shown a body of work to justify an at-large bid.
Dancing: Legacy and MiElite. Outside the bubble: Madfrog, KC Power, Dynasty, Rockwood, NoName, Adrenaline, FC Elite, Norco, Top Select, NorCal.
