Lauren Matthews needs to get a win. She’s just too valuable of a fantasy pick to be in a winless team. Is she though? High kill for sure. Average blocker. But no help with assists, aces, or digs. |

I'm not saying she's the MOST valuable MB, however, she's the most prolific MB if you want to win kills each week without having to sacrifice another ANY slot to an OH to do it. MB's are undervalued in our model, so you either find one that is consistently a true game changer in a category you are trying to win (I.e. Matthews in kills) so you don't have to sacrifice an ANY slot to stack for that category, OR you find one that will aid you in the periphery stats like aces and digs (i.e. Clothier and O'Neal, which is why I picked them up). When it comes to the primary stats for a middle (blocks/kills), there is very little difference, on average, for most of the middles on our roster. In our model, the goal is to play just enough players/positions against your opponent to win the small advantage, NOT to pile up on a category you will already win. Matthews is gold because it means you don't HAVE to play another OH in your ANY slot to be competitive in kills. |
