These top tier recruits don't need to visit campus. They are committing to the program. Or they go to camp and view it then. Under the old recruiting rules, you could get the girls on campus and meet them before offering. Now when the June 15 gun goes off, if you want a chance at the higher profile recruits you had better be prepared to offer without meeting them in person. I know several girls offered in the first few days after June 15 and they were given offers without ever setting foot on campus. Several took them because they were schools they wanted. And most likely the biggest reason the portal is so popular. But not what this thread is about, so I’ll stop.

that’s great for Beth! Congratulations! I don’t quite get this committing to the application process business, however. Does that mean you are obligated to forego your applications to other schools? Can one apply for admission to a school without committing to the process? I applied at Yale Law but didn’t make a commitment to the process. Wonder if that’s what did me in.

I think it means it's all contingent on actually getting into Yale (which is not at all certain). Think this is why Stanford recruits typically don't post announcements until they get accepted. I join you as a member of the Yale Law rejects club.

Stanford has a similar designation within the admissions process (I know; been there, done it). What it likely means, in this SA's process with Yale, is recruitment stops, until YU's decision to admit (or not).

I join you as a member of the Yale Law rejects club. For the high academic D1s and D3s, you basically find a match (player wants school, coach wants player) and then you go to "Pre-read". Pre-read is putting transcripts, test scores and extra curricula in front of admissions. Admissions then gives a read on if you are likely admitted, can be admitted with some actions (example: raise test scores) or if you are a likely no. My guess is this person is a match for school/coach, has passed pre-read and is going to early decision admissions. She would not apply to any other schools unless she is denied on early decision at Yale, which is unlikely.
