It is good to see Rhamat Alhassan still playing on the National team. I'm sure it has been mentioned but she didn't start playing volleyball until she was a sophomore in high school. I can remember her junior year when she dominated at Holy Cross and I said where did she come from. Her coach said that she played on JV last year and is mainly a basketball player. I saw the JV that previous year and I didn't remember her.
Most thought she would go to college to play basketball, but I guess she liked the sport of volleyball. She played for Metro at about the time they were starting to grow nationally as a club. She came from the class of 2014.
She is an example I use for other athletic players who don't begin playing volleyball until high school. Of course, it helps to be 6'4" and have an approach jump of over 11 feet. It also goes to show the transfer of athletic skills that can occur for girls who play other sports.

Colombia takes set 1 over Cuba 25-16.
I feel like Colombia would've had a great shot at beating Belgium at the Challenger Cup had Camila Gomez been there. I remember the backup libero just missed way too many balls on defense and gave Belgium so many points.

It also goes to show the transfer of athletic skills that can occur for girls who play other sports. RJP also didn't start playing until she was in high school at age 15. She's not 6'4 either, though she can jump out of the gym. And she was another athlete who played other sports first, starting with gymnastics for a long time and then a year in softball before trying volleyball.

Did Stumler get injured during training? Looks like she just had surgery in Colorado? Really sad, if true. Hope it isn't anything too serious. Her hand was in a cast.
