Alright 25-20 ILL 3-1
Match was a lot closer than it should have been. We need a middle attack & work on our passing. The too teams all have a strong middle attack.
Rains seemed very timid. Her roll shot to the middle was the most successful of her shots. Her line %*$# was non-existant. Love to see her get her confidence up and blast away. 6’5” with a vertical- shw should be killing it!
Would love to see more fire from this team. Seemed flat compared to Ole Miss.

Earlier, we saw a lot of commentary to the effect that GT was not worthy of their preseason #9 rankings. Thoughts now? I see that a lot of teams ranked near them lost this weekend. GT facepalmed at times but managed to win all of their matches. I don't expect to see their ranking slip.
At least, not for the second poll.

I hope Whittington hasnt re-injured the knee she destroyed in high school. She tore all the ligaments in one of her knees She had surgery over the summer. |

In their match with us, they had a much more balanced attack. If they continue to play like they did against us, they deserve their ranking. |

I was in a state of shock during the first set. Collier took out two of the starting members after the disastrous first set. Setting is an issue (constantly undersetting) and McKissock's consistency is sorely missed. Bergmann was forced to carry the team on her back - they need someone to match the fire and energy that Brambilla brought... Brambilla/Bergmann was a lethal one-two punch but now, they just have Bergmann. I was really hoping that the underclassmen at GT can step up (and hope that will still happen during the season) but so far, they're having to fully rely on the veteran upperclassmen and transfers like Otene. I hope GT can get the setting game under control b/c I do think they have enough attackers among Bergmann, Morissette, Moss, Otene, and the grad transfer from UCF, Tali Marmen (whom we have yet to see much of)... but this lineup doesn't leave room for the underclassmen to grow. Too bad the Illinois match was not televised so that we could see the difference we're talking about. |
