6-1 Baylor run to end that set. This is one thing I'm looking at. The ability of this team to finish without the leadership of Hart on the floor. It is hard to draw conclusions without being able to visually see things transpire. Hart doesn't play back row so all the leadership in the world really won't improve their wayward passing right now. Serving poor last night too but difference is Baylor attack much better than TCU's thus pressing our defense. Passing wasn't great. We weren't putting pressure with the serve. We weren't defending well. Take it in 5!

Baylor won in 5 against A&M in their exhibition match. Maybe that proves to be helpful in this match.

What I’m seeing of this Baylor team on this mediocre feed (that I’m extremely grateful for!) in my limited time viewing them doesn’t begin to compare to last year’s team. But I like what I’ve seen of Carlson. A lot. They just don’t have a Skinner or Pressley out there. A team full of 5th years and seniors to a team of mostly freshmen and sophomores… of course they’re not gonna compare in the second match of their season/career. Let’s not discredit the effort that these young players have been putting in against two top 5 teams in a row. Who is discrediting? It’s an awesome effort. I’m extraordinarily impressed. But Wisconsin underperforming is a huge factor here. And as a Texas fan I found Baylor extraordinarily scary the last few years. I’m very much assuming Baylor will get there again, but this match is evidence of the beginning of that journey, not their arrival. If I can’t make that kind of observation without somehow discrediting the Baylor players and coaching staff I don’t know what to tell you.

Looking at stats. Smrek really has not had a good match. Every hitter with more that 10 ATs has a percentage greater than 0.300. Demps at 10 has 0.200. Smrek has 10 errors.

Smrek and Demps back to mid-season 2021 form, which wasn’t very great? Not sure the 6-2 makes sense if they’re not hitting very well like that. Hope they (or someone like Wrobel) steps up and improves.

Saying that Baylor is only in this match because of how Wisconsin is playing just aligns with the other ramblings about how they’re not a top 25 team. Should we also say that Minnesota only won yesterday because of how error-prone Baylor played?
