Smrek with only 5 hitting attempts today... Is Smrek the one getting set by Hammill?

Smrek with only 5 hitting attempts today... Is Smrek the one getting set by Hammill? Yeah, I think so. That connection hasn't worked that well all preseason. They also mostly were keeping Smrek out on the pin. She was having to hit OOS. It's not her strong suit.

Okay, Sheff using a challenge when weβre up by 7 is a choice. π And yet we won the challenge and so we were therefor up by 9. π My new seat was the perfect angle for that one. Definitely no touch.

I noticed a little 'aggression' on occasion, some quicker tempo sets to the left side.

Smrek with only 5 hitting attempts today... Is Smrek the one getting set by Hammill? Last weekend, Smrek was on the floor opposite of Izzy; Friday and today, she was on opposite MJ.

FWIW in a match like that:
Izzy serving by set: 18-7, 18-4, 13-7 MJ serving by set: 7-3, 7-7, 12-7
In the third set, they started with MJ as the first setter serving, instead of Izzy; that is, in 'rotation 4' instead of 'rotation 1'. The first time they've done that this year. And Demps was in as MJ's opposite, instead of Smrek (as has been noted already).

My only criticisms of Hammill's setting today was that the connection to the BR attack wasn't the cleanest. Her body control is maybe a little less precise than Ashburn -- Ashburn had some nice saves on tight passes to the net, but Hammill had a net call in a similar situation. I don't think Smrek's problems were down to Hammill. Smrek is just a bit less comfortable on the OOS RS pin attack, and she just missed some shots long, one from the middle. She was set as much by GG as by Hammill. Demps seems to manage OOS better.
Ashburn looks cleaner on tricky sets behind her right now, and her connection on quicks seems good. A really nice slide from Hart at one point. MJ's connection to Franklin looked great - I liked this one play where a dig pushed her forward and she brushed Smrek back while trying to get to the ball and set. Showed some headiness and command there. And Franklin got a nice kill. I really like Ashburn's ball control and hustle on D. But there is not a huge difference between the setters.
Marquette made a point of targeting setters in attack, but HP wasn't that successful taking the setters out of the play, and the OOS system setting was better.

Good win for the Badgers, at any rate. Got the sweep and a lot of people in the match.

Looked better today. She had some really good sets to Franklin (who also looked better). The big difference between today (HP) and Friday (Marquette) is the passing was better today. The setters were not setting from the 15-20 foot off the net area as much. Izzy is quicker than MJ. That gets accentuated when the passing is bad. Izzy can get to the ball faster and that works to her advantage.
