We had some great matches with Utah State back in the 70’s. Mary Jo Peppler and Marilyn McReavy built a great program in a relative short amount of time. Good times.

I think you saw flashes of why Utah St. can give good teams trouble. Their middle offense is actually really good. It's quick and those middles take smart angles. Their RS hitters can be trouble. Turner, in particular, can play really well on the RS. BYU just got them out of system so much they couldn't run their offense. Plus, BYU's defensive middle play was quite good tonight.

My favorite part of watching tonight's match--Heather Gneiting digging on the back row. Plus she had a beautiful set for an assist. I'm starting to wish she never left the floor.

I wouldn’t say they have the advantage. BYU’s middles have been playing out of their minds. Pretty even if anything. Who is the other middle besides Kneiting? I was looking for Prior but looks like there’s another middle that had been playing. I’d say Serena and Kneiting are pretty even, but don’t know about the other middle for BYU It's Whitney Llarenas. She's been in the program since 2018, but was quite awkward offensively as a freshman and even through last year although she had steady improvement each year. She was in the transfer portal at the beginning of the season last fall, but stayed. The improvement from last year to this year is probably as big as the total improvement from her in the previous four seasons. I think she has also slimmed down, which has really helped her mobility. She was always a very heavy hitter when she could connect. Now, we are seeing it most of the time rather than just once in a while. Curious to see if she'll be able to keep it up against Cincinnati and Pitt.

Cincinnati wins 1st set against Pittsburgh, 25-20. They were down 11-14 (I think), took a timeout, came back with five straight points to lead 16-14 and never looked back.
