I feel like she always positions herself awkwardly to set OOS- like she pivots completely just prior to the contact it’s weird For her next trick, she will do a handstand and set with her feet im deddddd

Again a clear hamper on Florida's team as a whole - serve and pass Yup. Florida deserves better.

Opinions moving forward for MN:
1. Gros and Booth should be starting middles. 2. Shaffmaster needs to set the outside much higher in transition (this should NOT be a difficult correction). 3. If/when McKenna Wucherer returns, I think Wenaas will play on the right. She hits great there. Landfair/Wucherer on the left. 4. Kilkelly needs to pull it together mentally and STOP passing super easy free balls fifty feet in the air. It's like she's trying to slow down her own offense.

Gros was a star. Wow.
I am surprised there isn’t more chatter about Landfair. She was barely swinging in the first few sets and was using the bike a fair amount. Started to come alive later but any thoughts? Just an off day or maybe not feeling super well. I know nobody knows but definitely something to keep an eye on with her history.

Shaff just really needs to set the OHs higher.

Even when she had decent sets she was late- it isnt always the setters fault you know- she almost didnt react on an easy overpass in first set but it was nice to see her come on later.

I think getting blocked a couple times made her super tentative for half the match, coupled with not the greatest passing and both her and Wenaas weren't doing much of anything. Didn't notice her on the bike myself.

A very talented setter and the Russian transfer from Syracuse will be a big headache for Minnesota if FLA is able to stay in system Will Hugh be willing to spin the dial to front Booth across from Markova? The Gophers have a broader weapons array if Shaff doesn’t have to chase errant first contacts. Why move Booth over? Stanford's Francis was very effective against the Gators in the middle. I'd say try to duplicate her success. Also, Essix was automatix. I'd look out for her in the middle. Bre Kelly looked good to me there, too. Not convinced Markova was their biggest weapon in that match. I will stand by my assertion re Markova If she gets more consistent behind the service line with the quality of sets that Stuckey puts up she will be in the short list for POY

Had some great seats for the match today. Some takeaways:
Gophers:
-Shaffmaster was forcing too much tempo for the majority of the match with so many sets barely above tape. The coaches and her better work to tweak that offensive philosophy some to give our hitters more wiggle room and some cleaner hitting opportunities.
-I will say though, for as good as Landfair swings on a “green light” set, she gets real timid and tips or swings 50% on any “yellow light” set / OOS ball that an elite outside hitter would still go get and bang. So she didn’t exactly pick up Mel today
-At the same time, Mel’s defense and net play was phenomenal
-Naya Gros was the spark that this team needed! Great swings on the slide and put up an imposing block
-If and when Wucherer is able to return, I think it’d be wise to move Wenaas to Opposite. Her hitting is visibly so much more effective on the right pin.
-CC with her breakout match of the 2022 season that we’ve all been waiting for. Dimed some nasty serves from Florida, dished out some nasty serves herself, and sat angle for some great digs
-Hoping Kilkelly gets some confidence flowin through her soon. Clearly not the start to the season she would have hoped for, but talk about a great kid who wants to perform well. I’m rooting for her to find her groove as the season goes on!
-Serving is CLEARLY more aggressive this year. I’m loving this development for the program; it was much needed.

Florida:
-Markovic and Beason look like they have the makings of a 2-headed monster on the pins. That high hall lead set to the opposite in transition was a thing of beauty
-Middle attack was really lacking today
-Bre Kelley is an athletic freak and puts of a heck of a block. Crazy vertical she has
-Markova’s hybrid is wicked. I’d be real nervous to have to pass that cleanly
-Stucky is so dang impressive. Thought she could've thrown in some more dumps to keep Minnesota’s block honest
-Mckissok wasn’t making the reads I would’ve expected from her and Adams got targeted and exposed in a major way in serve receive
-The refs were generally terrible in real time today

My favorite thing at the match was after Gros had that monster slide kill. The person who celebrated the hardest on the sideline was the person behind her in the depth chart: Davis (bootless, btw).

A Microanalysis of service reception in the Florida Minnesota match MN took set 1 hitting only .125 10 7 25
I looked at the 22 points where FLA served:
FLA retained serve nine times 3 kills 4 blocks 2 MN hitting errors
of the other 13 points MN had 10 first ball side outs 4 by MBs Booth & Husemann after good passes 2 by SEs (both after MN's score was >20) 2 after overpasses (one uncontested hitting error & 1 block by Shaff) 2 after OOS passes with amazing sets and 3rd contact big swings
3 FLA hitting errors (not counting Shaff's block after an overpass)
What is a good FBSO %? When the score is in the 20s you just can't commit a SE When the opponents make an overpass you are supposed to win the point Wenaas was the primary target (13) and passed well & lucky. Her overpass was pushed out, Kilkelly got a kill after an out of system free ball that was mishandled. MN won points on two broken plays when Shaff pancaked a serve that rolled over the top of the net and when Booth went for a short serve and McGraw bumped a perfect set to Landfair for a FBSO. Markova targeted McGraw twice but didn't win a point from her serves. Kilkelly mishandled both of her receives, but Shaff blocked one overpass and made a super set for a Wenaas kill on the other.
Lucky, scrappy, competitive. There was a lot of serious grumbling from FLA fans but they had MN hitters out of sorts for a good portion of the match.
