Wow, Ohio State showing some real toughness in winning this match. Georgia Tech is still by far the best middle school team in the country. Wut? Is ACC not a P5 conference anymore?

It's literally a former high school gym built in the 50s. Donated to GT in the 60s. There was a plan to replace it with a 3000-seat gym as part of a basketball practice facility, but they didn't raise enough money and only built half of it. So they do the best they can with what they have. It's a pretty new Taraflex floor and nice big video screen on one wall while still being a loud and intimidating place to play. It’s friggin’ Atlanta. It has to be practically cost prohibitive to build anything new on campus. I’m a Texas fan, and UT faces some of the same dilemmas, but it’s not even remotely the same dynamic. Texas has more money than King Midas, and the city has no major professional teams. They just built a brand new basketball arena for $310m using no university funds, and when it’s not hosting UT events it will be the premier arena for the city if Austin. That’s an unfair competitive advantage right there. I’m going to continue to make fun of the 1000 seat gymnasium, because that’s the kind of thing I do for fun, but I have a lot of sympathy for Georgia Tech and their constraints. It’s one of the best universities in the country and they have a great coach in Michelle Collier, Georgia Tech fans have nothing to be ashamed of, that’s for sure. And what the right hand taketh away, the left hand giveth, to paraphrase. It’s nice to be able to recruit players to Atlanta as opposed to some of the more rural destinations. Especially when you’re recruiting so many international players.

The building is an asset. Yes, they need an in-between building that isn’t the cavern the basketball arena would be but has more space around the court and higher capacity. When they would play women’s basketball in the same gym, the “benches” were the first row of the bleachers as the floor just fits a basketball court. But there are a lot of constraints as to where on campus that facility could be. They wiped out a parking lot 10+ years ago to build a softball field to get softball back on campus.
O’Keefe has been much improved over the past 20 years.

O’Keefe has been much improved over the past 20 years. All it takes is money. Given GT’s location, a whole lot MORE money than somewhere else. I don’t envy the athletic department’s challenge in juggling all the competing priorities. Unfortunately, O’Keefe is low hanging fruit in terms of outsiders making fun of it. And I’m not disciplined enough to refrain. It looks absurd on television. That’s not meant as an attack on Georgia Tech fans or Georgia Tech as an institution. That’s just the truth of it.

Is that what I always wonder? Do I lie in bed and ponder what the difference is between a mature and immature player? haha I gotta admit, if this color commentator did every volleyball match I watch I'd be happy. Her energy level is insane when she's announcing. She's a GT alum. Nothing against her but I wish they'd get someone else who actually explains the strategy of the game and explains on a technical level what just happened and I would like to learn more about the techniques and how the opponent's hole was exploited, etc. She instead repeats a play by play of what just happened with more energy after the announcer already said it. I do not learn anything from her. Now the person I really enjoyed listening to is that female commentator that does the Louisville matches at home. She is so knowledgeable and breaks down what just happened so precisely...
