Thought this one might be interesting for people in here. Kent sat down for 4.5 hours breaking down his thoughts on attacking, blocking, defending, passing and mentality that he thinks most people (even pro's today) are missing but that helped him succeed.
It's on Youtube at but also in podcast apps, search for Learn Beach Volleyball Fast podcast!

Not quite sure what Kent is trying to accomplish here. Obviously he wants to sell more books, but he’s almost pushing it as a how-to-win book which it really isn’t. Is he angling to get back into the game as a coach? As a promoter?
It’s been mentioned here before, but he does have a lot of baggage and burned bridges from when he played. I do enjoy his Facebook posts and the book is good (hard to tell exactly how much of the writing is his). But he does come across as a bit condescending in all these interviews, and regardless of what his ambitions are, I’m not sure he’s doing himself any favors.

Holy sh*t, 4.5 hours!? I can only imagine this is just old man type of rambling about what kids don't know today blah blah.
I will attempt to listen to some of it but I am going to assume this episode is likened to when the old boomers in office settings try to tell the interns or new hires that you don't actually need computers and they have made the workforce worse, and back in their day showing up early, working through lunch, and giving up all personal time to destroy your life at home is how you really succeed in this world.

I haven’t listened yet, I wonder how many times he’ll mention Stanford Probably not as often as he refers to discredited mindset research. I'd love to hear him talk about his career for 4.5 hours but don't have much interest in this

I tried to listen, but after about 45 minutes it just seemed too slow... I'll give it another try only b/c I enjoyed his appearance on Sandcast.

Apparently, of you approach at an angle, rather than straight on, you can hit a set across a table of about five feet instead of only one specific spot. I didn't follow the logic on that. The set goes where it goes. You can approach that set from any angle, but how it becomes hittable across an immensely wider range fruits logic to me.
I didn't listen to more than about three 15 random segments.

Steffes now has a video up on FB scouting film of Norway vs Qatar in the Cancun finals last year. His first attempt at posting the video on YouTube was quickly blocked by the FIVB on copyright grounds.
He claims a month of his coaching would get Qatar to beat Norway, but in response to a question in the comments he says he wouldn’t actually coach because he already has a job. Again it seems like a strange way to sell a book about the sport’s history, but he’s clearly putting a lot of time and effort into it.

Steffes ... Again it seems like a strange way to sell a book about the sport’s history, but he’s clearly putting a lot of time and effort into it. I don't think it has anything to do with the book. It seems he has found an audience because of the book launch, appearance on Sandcast, that will listen to him. I think he likes being listened to. It is his only involvement in volleyball at this point. Plus, there is the power of an idea. He thinks his ideas will work, but as you point out, he has a real job and does not have time to actually coach a team nor does her have time to become the marketing director for AVP or FIVB ... this is as close as he can get.

Just watched the entire 90 minute scouting video and it is incredibly entertaining. It doesn’t even matter if he’s right about everything (he isn’t) or whether he overanalyzes every play (he does). But he isn’t afraid to criticize the players, whether it’s fundamentals or just positioning, and it’s refreshing compared to all the current commentators who blindly praise everything. It feels like watching John Madden with the telestrator in the 1980s, complete with catch phrases and cultural references. Check it out before the FIVB takes it down again.
I’m not sure it would work as well with live color commentary since he spends so much time on every point, and I’m sure nobody could afford him anyway. But I’d love to see VBW or the AVP give him a shot or at least have VBM put up post-match analysis videos. It would certainly add some much-needed spice to the way beach volleyball is covered.
