Also I don’t wanna be like mean but it’s like is getting matches like this on ESPN helpful? Like at least at this point if that makes sense. Eventually I want as many matches on platforms like this as possible but I just wonder if for the start of this kinda movement if it would be better if it was mostly top match ups getting put on. Cancel me if this is a bad take

In 1968, when Joan Cronan became head Lady Vols basketball coach at 23 years old, the Lady Vols did not have any uniforms—they were playing in T-shirts and shorts. Cronan set about to change that. Only a few companies made women’s basketball uniforms, and none offered an orange uniform. She found some uniforms with orange lettering, which was fine for road games, but rules prohibited home teams from wearing white. Cronan had to decide what color the home-game uniforms would be. She liked Carolina (Columbia) Blue. It was available, and it went well with orange lettering. Cancel me if this is a bad take I would say yes, its helpful. You have to start from somewhere. The only conferences with ESPN rights are SEC/ACC... you're not gonna get a ton of top matches from them now in conference. (edit: I forgot Big 12 lol) But, any volleyball on tv right now is good for the sport. Are they going to crush viewership? Most likely not.... but ESPN showing they're willing to put it on TV is an absolute positive.... It'll just help those big match ups (imo)... they're gonna get moved to main tv and not be stuck on only streaming (which isnt helping anyone) There's kinda a blank space in the TV right now.... WNBA is over... basketball hasnt started yet... Vball needs to step in and show up. These are opportunities for that. |
