the league title was a 5-set thriller. nec found their groove and dominated toray in the second set. swp had three consecutive kill blocks (2 against ishikawa and 1 against kulan) to end the set. after the halftime break, toray turned it on and almost reverse-swept nec. the coin flipped in what i thought was mainly brought by ishikawa's intensity on the court. they changed their serving target to swp and, almost every time, she shanked the ball, so nec was oos in many rallies. swp couldn't pass (24.5% eff.) or kill the ball, and, otoh, kulan found her groove. koga had some insane oos attacks, but ishikawa was phenomenal in the last three sets. she was very lethal in the front row and the go-to scorer of toray.
i thought it was the typical lopsided offense that we see from japan, with the ohs taking the brunt of the load, but nec had better distribution, which was instrumental in their win. it's ironic because they passed worse than toray (62% vs. 38%) but hit better, although by a small margin. toray had TWO championship points but lost it all and allowed nec to go on a 4-0 run to win the match. seki flopped hard with her decision-making as she insisted on setting ishikawa in those last few points even though the blockers were already on her. there were a couple hitters available on the slide and the pipe, but she just refused, like flat out refused, to set it for anyone else not named ishikawa. ishikawa had about 7-10 swings in the last two points but was blocked twice to lose it all.

It would be funny to get a Olympiacos and Panathinaikos final… with all the complaining they’ve done about their foreigners lol
