What? Look - all respect to what she's done at Wazzu. I remember how terrible the program was when they took over in the PAC-10. What she's been able to do to keep them a competitive tournament team even hosting 1st/2nd round is very, very impressive. Her court antics are something else. She's not afraid to show her whole aZZ. Absolutely no reason for you to go there, is what I’m saying. She is a passionate coach. You see a male coach having those same reactions and it’s no big deal? Her “antics” is her passion for the great things she’s done for the program. Bill’s offensive coordinator loses his mind in the box last week and people “respect” him for his passion - but can’t be the same for female coaches in the role. You are normalizing this opinion. This is a bad take. Women coaches get way more leeway to kvetch to the officials. Do they face a ton of other disadvantages? Yes. But they don't get called to task for these complaints the way male coaches do. Like, I remmeber Mary Wise yelling at an official, him walking away, her GRABBING him by the shoulders and turning him back to her, and . . . nothing. A male coach would have been kicked out of the gym.

Where did I say it's no big deal? I was around for the Mick vs. Moore matches too - I wouldn't call those no big deals. I'm not normalizing the opinion. I understand gender norms and attitudes towards not just female athletes but coaches as well. That doesn't mean you can box Greeny's behavior into that. I was a Mick fan - but no excusing his antics either. Pretty borderline unethical in some situatons. But I never saw that transferred down to the players (unlike the Wazzu case)...

I agree with what you’re saying - the issue with this is that she didn’t even have any bad reactions this game and you went there for no reason. Lib at WSU has always been a fiery player, I would definitely not say that was passed down.

Great comeback from Stanford and pretty dang good game from WSU all things considered. Kipp and Norville played YUGE roles there at the end of set 4. Set 4 was like a Greek tragedy for Wazoo. As far as Stanford winning, why do I feel like I just left my dentist's office after having my wisdom teeth pulled?

When I had my wisdom teeth yanked, I felt great--lots of high-class pain killers!

She still has lots to do, but Rubin has been impressive. She keeps improving her shot selection, and her blocking is remarkable for her size and frosh-status. The other plus has been Baird's back-row play. The team is getting more interesting to watch.

OK: watched both of the weekend matches just now (kinda busy getting married recently). Versus UW, that Maples audience sounded about as animated as I have heard any conference season crowd in quite a while...even when it wasn't set or match point . Great determination to come back from that opening set L. Baird was *much more* effective than in other recent contests. Against WSU, you have to give the Cougs their due as far as awesome floor defense. Those rallies were really something; Oglivie's diving, one-armed dig at 18-16 in the 4th set was truly a Hentzian moment. There's lots to look forward to!

Great determination to come back from that opening set L. Baird was *much more* effective than in other recent contests. Against WSU, you have to give the Cougs their due as far as awesome floor D. Those rallies were really something; Oglivie's diving one-armed stab-dig at 18-16 in the 4th (I believe) was truly a Hentzian moment. A lot to look forward to... Someone wanted to marry you? Ok, that was a cheap shot, but it was there for the taking. Belated congratulations! I thought we played better against U-Dub, but that probably was due to emotion and respect. Against WSU I thought we came in a bit flat, but we managed to steal set one, and that helped a lot. Set two was a "let's see how many ways we can shoot ourselves in the foot" disaster. But then, like flicking a switch, the Card was nearly perfect in set 3 siding out like a well oiled machine. Set four reminded me of set one, and then Kipp played superwoman from the service line with help from WSU's Julia Norville, and the Card ending up holding serve for the entire weekend.
