Much more stable and efficient match from UW. Way to finish the Bay Area weekend. And, to also close out the weekend with a huge commitment from Julia Hunt (2024/KY)! She brings versatility and a heavy arm. Attachments:

Kate Morin is a fine young lady, but she is neither a "starter" nor a "player to watch". According to UW's stat sheet, she has started exactly "1" match (likely in the week that Houghton was filling in for Bays at L) and has played in only 6 out of 17 matches. UW's players to watch should be Powell, Hoffman, Grote, and/or Bays. When does Bush make it onto this list? Now

Good bounce back game from the Huskies. I admit to being underwhelmed by Cal. They really should be better than this by now.
As a team, the Huskies played well in the ball control game, both in SR and floor D (41-29 edge in digs). That is heartening. Blocking improved too, though Cal was OOS for much of the match. It was nice not to need heroics from Hoffman.
I thought this was a great confidence-building match for some players the Huskies are going to need to rely on more and more as the season progresses. First, Wilmes showed she is a versatile, skilled OH, hitting for efficiency (.429), blocking (2), digging (4), and serving (one ace, no SEs), and tallying the third highest number of points for UW. Second, the Summers-Powell connection is heating up (.636). Maybe as significant, Summers led the team in blocks by a wide margin with 6 including 2 solos. If Sophie can keep progressing like she has in the last few weeks, well, UW will plug some of its early holes. Third, Kate Morin is showing some great instinctual play in the back row, albeit with the occasional overpass. I think Morin needs more reps and should probably be our primary DS.

Nice to see Wilmes play better today. Thrown into the fire at Stanford, but settled in much better today. Although CAL obviously was easier, they do have solid blocking ability, and she was able to avoid erroring much. 8 kills, 2 errors, hit .429. 1 ace, 2 BA, and 4 digs. Not bad for just her second nearly full game.

I mean Powell, Hoffman and Grote are returning All Americans, we know what they can do. Washington is winning big matches when they players NOT named Powell, Hoffman, and Grote are shining.

Not bad for just her second nearly full game. IMO she's out of position on the RS, but I really think the staff wants to push the Hoffman/Bush agenda on the LS. They seem to be the best out of system attackers on the squad. Endsley going down with injury REALLY highlights how much Cole's role is needed. Nothing against her, honestly, but when you run a 5-1 and the only option off the bench on the RS is a freshmen who doesn't even play opposite, you got some problems. In the ideal world, the scholarship breakdown should be 2 setters 2 passing OH's 1 A heavy swinging hitting OH or another passing OH 1 true opposite 3 true MB's Oppo/MB combo 2 L
