Correct, but when the other Nebraska coaches are calling they can say “hey we have Jordan Larson as our new assistant coach”.

She'll still have Stanford, Baylor, Texas Tech to work with and I'll bet each of those grad students can play any position really well with minimal to no coaching needed. The real question is who's she going to be able to recruit this late in the game to fill out the roster well enough to remain competitive? We'll find out fast if she's any good at recruiting. Hard to play without a setter, let alone a good one. They’re a quarter school so lots of time to get someone in! I would not be shocked given the number of setters currently on the UCLA roster that one/two may come over with her.

Meg is known as a good recruiter, but the timing/situation are tough. I don't think she'll have trouble getting good talent into the program over the long term, especially vis-à-vis their Summit League rivals, but she's likely headed for a rocky start to her tenure.

I agree. I think Megan is a great fit and will do good things there.

Just curious, what’s the pay for a DOVO at a place like Penn State, or a Wisconsin, or other B1G school?

Just bc they can pay a 3rd asst doesn't mean everyone will. Volunteers will still be filling out non power 5 staffs forever

So they didn't get rid of volunteer coaches? They technically did. This could be one of two things: 1) A posting listed for a volunteer assistant, but with promise of a salary after July 1. A lot of schools have been doing this (mostly Power-5's). But we're so close to July 1 that I can't imagine they'll find someone so quickly. 2) The rule eliminating volunteer assistants is pretty vague. From what I remember, all it means is that the coach cannot work for free and must be compensated by the athletics department in some manner. Many schools opted to turn it into a paid full-time or part-time position. But I've heard of other schools discussing loopholes, like simply providing an on-campus food stipend, or a cell phone to make recruiting calls, etc. In any case, good luck to all mid-majors looking for good assistant coaches. We're already seeing a lot of good coaches who might have taken 1st or 2nd assistant jobs at mid-majors (or leaving those positions) to take 3rd assistant jobs at Power-5's. The rich will always get richer.

I don’t think 3rd assistants can perform any recruiting duties until July 1, in regards to Larson. I know during COVID they removed the legislation restricting recruiting calls to only the 3 paid countable coaches. Last I heard they were discussing making that change permanent come July 1 - so technically she could make calls if that were the case. I won't pretend to be the most informed person here, though.

The American job has a really really really strong candidate pool. I can’t imagine being in the ADs shoes and having to make this choice.
