Looks like from their site they’re focused to the desire to build a championship culture. Was that actually true in reference to the specific coach or just a blanket statement for there being a lack of recruitment there? Looks like they’ve only got 14 players on the current roster, two of which are seniors likely graduating. Anyone know the story on this?

Lol. Just seems so wrong if a coach is going to be let go why let them linger? That just makes me think who ever is supposed to do the firing is wavering. The longer they wait the more likely it's not going to happen. I think that's what a lot the girls who are mass exiting are assuming as well. Most girls don't just put their name in the portal because of play time. Some coaches try to push out girls not knowing what a bad look they are creating for themselves. No one likes to see their coach bully players regardless of play time. Most kids don’t say they are entering the portal due to playing time but I would argue most kids issues start and stem from that exact reason. It’s easy trash a coach, a program, etc vs looking in the mirror and accepting reality. Not saying coaches don’t force players out but I’m betting far more kids leave based on playing time and issues stemming from that than anything else. Just my take. I agree playing time can be an important reason to leave. IMO one of the "related issues" is being pushed too hard. Development takes effort. To be at the top, it takes huge effort. Many athletes have been stars working at a certain level. Now a college coach says they need to really step it up, and the coach keeps saying that for a year or two. You feel misunderstood and mistreated. It can seem like abuse from one view and seriously not performing up to the level of their talent from the coach.

Is anyone keeping stats on this season versus last few season? I am expecting many changes voluntary and non-voluntary. Just wondering if this season is outpacing the last few seasons.

From a strictly D1, head coaching perspective, there were 43 openings (7 P5, which we are up to already) last year in the job thread (there may have been some more too since the creator of that thread deleted their account before the hiring cycle ended). Would be interesting to know how many of those were at the end of their contract vs were let go vs fired with payout. I’m thinking the number of people fired without their contract being up might be greater this year since schools are getting more back to normal in terms of finances since the pandemic.

Last year ended up at 58 or 59 total D1 head coaching jobs, about 1 in 6 schools, but I didn't keep track of the pace. I do know that at this point last year LSU, Penn State and Syracuse still had coaches.

If you ever met Jones you know why its sad. He is a great guy and someone that I would've trusted my daughter with as a coach. I've heard rumblings what happened and I'll leave that to myself. But I hope the best for him and his family.

Building programs from the ground up can definitely have its challenges that’s for sure, speaking from experience. Interested to hear this story as well. Wondering if there wasn’t a full commit from the admin level or inability to recruit (budget/resources) from the area, etc… If the school is wanting to be what they say they want to be, it is definitely possible to get there fast, at the juco level. I've seen 1st year programs get to the national tournament before. It is not as challenging as a 1st year 4-year program would be. I wonder what happened. Apparently Amarillo College sent out "thanks...but no thanks" emails already. So I'm assuming they are staying with Coach Black. Unless of course they had someone else all along for the job & had to post the position due to legal regulations. Either way, that was a very quick turn around.

""So they left Boo [Chanthavisouk] and fifteen athletes to take the light rail through downtown Seattle, then walk through Cap Hill at twelve on a Saturday night,” Bartley said. “We felt super unsafe, we were getting cat-called as we were walking, it just wasn’t an ideal situation.”"
What, and I cannot stress this enough, THE !!!!###$$$!!!?

I'd trust Daniel with my kids and my wife...totally and upstanding dude.
