The NHL season starts today. I'll take Edmonton to win the Stanley Cup and McDavid to win the Hart Trophy.

Forgot to mention, but the first Utah Hockey Club game will be tonight as the end of a triple-header on ESPN. They will take on the Blackhawks. Speaking of Utah, they're still the "Hockey Club" for now, but it sounds like Utah Yeti is the leader in the clubhouse for the permanent name, which I like.

Edit: loser Colorado fans are bent about the possibility of Yeti because they had a mascot that was a yeti, even though they haven't used him since 2001, lol. They think Utah is intentionally ripping off the closest NHL team. As someone who lives here, no one is thinking about the Avalanche or their former mascot.

Utah is now 3-0 on the season. They may eventually supplant San Jose as my Western Conference team. Or maybe they can share it. I don't have to worry about split loyalties unless they play the Penguins in the Stanley Cup Final, and when that did happen, the Sharks got temporarily kicked to the curb.

Edit: of course, San Jose and Utah could play each other in the playoffs. In that case, I think I'd still root for San Jose. They're long-suffering.

Saw the kraken steal one in Minnesota tonight. They never led but ended winning 5-4, 2-1 in shootout.
Awesome that I can watch local NHL team.on free tv. Long overdue.

Next week I get to see my first kraken game in person. Not my first nhl game though. That came on 1/3 1998 when Montreal beat Vancouver on the road. Mark recchi had a hat trick for the Canadiens.

Avalanche look a team on the decline. 8 goals allowed to Vegas and 5 so far to a Columbus squad that probably is considered one of the worst teams in the league.

Sure enough dailyfaceoff summed up what I think about Colorado. Heck I get to see it every game with the goalie on my fantasy squad.
