I only saw parts of this game and I haven't seen a lot of the Gophs this year, but I have a question. Does Landfair ever dive for the ball?

Another left side Wenaas kill to end it for the Gopher sweep. Right side 7 4 20 .200
Left side ro1 4 0 4 1.000
With this year's solid middle threat Wenaas is going to have a much higher hitting efficiency than her historical stats, the argument that ' Hawk' posed. The match today highlights this new reality. In the first set MN had 3 FBSOs in the first set. All of them went to Booth: a "2", a gap set, and a slide. At the end of the second and in the third set Wenaas had 4 FBSOs. IL's MB had to respect Booth and Wenaas receive nice, what I would deem 3+ sets that gave her great opportunities to terminate. As long as MN can pass, something that they didn't do very well today, we have the offense to compete against anybody. I actually think Wookie has the most dynamic attack AND the widest range of all three pins. She won't suffer on the RS. Smarter analysts than myself can devise serve reception to hide or protect Wookie as she becomes more passing-proficient

Illnois lost that match, we didn't necessarily WIN IT
The RE we had in this match is not a good figure and the lack of blocking is still a concern. Our Setter is out blocking our pins.
I am agreeing with mcmike.....move Wenaas back to OH and McWu to the Opp position.
I really don't feel it will make a big difference who plays when moving forward. Many of our players skill level just isn't where it needs to be for us to dominate any opponent. Lots of growth for these Freshman, but on the positive side there is lots of potential. And, unfortunately, we are not getting solid results from our experienced players.

A couple of comments. Wenaas had some great kills on the left this afternoon. She looked like she was 'back at home'! It was great to see Skylar in the game and the the bench exploding with her first pass that I thought they were going to rush onto the floor. The Gophers couldn't stop any back row attacks today. Did I see Landfair turn her head away from a couple of balls coming her way; once high and once at her feet?

Like when she came over for a timeout and Miranda told her, hey you get to sit on the chairs, not stand with the bench players. She made a couple of nice passes on tough serves as well, and got her first NCAA assist.

Wenaas had a really good match all around. I'll assume the coaching staff will continue using her where they feel it best benefits the team.

Stats indicate Illinois 12 blocks, Minnesota 2 blocks...is this accurate? I don't know if those numbers are perfect but Illinois definitely outblocked Minnesota and Minnesota didn't have many blocks today.

6 team blocks vs. 1. the 12 and 2 are block assists assigned to players.

Minn having only 1 block in three sets is an unusual stat, but weirder still is Illinois having 16 HE overall. It's one thing to try to serve tough, only to discover that live by the serve, die by the serve. But this is something else. When you see that many HE, it's almost always because the other team has racked up the blocks. Here, however, Illinois lost 5 points a set on average just in hitting out, into the net, or simply whiffing. That's really bad.
Hugh's low error philosophy is often criticized on this forum--including by me--but I guess there is a method to his madness/boring play.

Illinois had their chances. Just couldn’t win late.
