Back to volleyball, I wonder if coaches like Dave Rubio or Bond Shymansky would be interested? Ask them I agree C Wade should be the top candidate (if he’s still around at this time) but I also feel if he doesn’t get the job most likely UH will lose him together with DS……

Does this guarantee he/she is a better coach than a non-islender candidate? Not at all, I just think that those with island connections are likely to apply for the job. In fact when the baseball coach retired (who was a Hawaii native like Shoji) and outsider with no connection to Hawaii was hired. Mike Trapasso was the top assistant at Georgia Tech and was rated as the top assistant coach in the country at the time. Unfortunately this hiring is looking like a mistake, after 4 years the baseball team has still not made postseason play and really underacheived this past season. Many fans are losing patience with Trapasso and are calling for his head. Back to volleyball, I wonder if coaches like Dave Rubio or Bond Shymansky would be interested? I don't know if Rubio would be a good choice. Arizona has not been that dominant with the #1 recruiting class a few years ago. I don't know if it is him or maybe his players did not meet expectations. I guess we will see how good they are this year. My top choice would be Charlie Wade. Although I think he would need an assistant coach with a Dave Shoji type personality.

I agree that Wade will be the frontrunner for the job...
There has also been murmurs about Tita Ahuna being a leading candidate, though her success has been at the DII level. A lack of DI coaching experience might set her back from other DI coaches who may possibly apply.

I mean...he approaches like Donny and Marie Osmond levels. ;D <-----note the BIG TEETH

If they hire Tita Ahuna, she'll be fired within 3 years. It'll seem like a great hire at first, but people will soon realize she was way in over her head.
Also, I thought Shoji said he was going to work until after his sons graduated from college. After all, he has to pay for their education and college ain't cheap. It doesn't make sense for him to stop coaching (and stop receiving his paycheck) as soon as they graduate from high school. The big expenses come during the college years, unless, you're like some parents who refuse to fun their children's college education.

A fair hire would be Charlie Wade, but we all know life ain't fair.
I suspect what would happen is Frazier (if that guy is still there) would be willing to hire Wade, but then some little punk-ahss in the Hiring Committee will say, "Now, wait a minute, brah..." Then, the Committee would go through the resumes and applications and think collectively, "These are some real good names here, man..." Then, they talk about and talk about it, and all the while, Wade must be going crazy. Then, the Committte ends up doing something really stupid by hiring, not some famous name from the A-List of nationally renowned volleyball coaches who really want to coach at Hawaii, but some name from the B-List who never really had a successful program on the mainland but had STRONG TIES to the islands. Yes, a shame, too.

That does sound like he has ties to the Island. Sounds like a done deal to me. But wait, there's the BIK factor. That will cost Hawaii a LOT more money. ;D ;D ;D

I am going to submit my app to UH when the time comes. I do really well in interviews. And my resume looks impressive with all those Marv Dunphy clinics I attended, not to mention a Wahine vb clinic back in the 1980s when I was a kid, and the fact I played setter for my intramural team in college. Besides, a head coach really does nothing. Just hire the right assistants, let them run the dog-and-pony show. Just give me the $$$ and fame and glory, while I exploit the underlings. Yeah, capitalism. Yeah, that's the ticket.

And will all of your imaginary friends that you throw all these volleyball parties for be on the coaching staff as well?
