Sounds like poor planning on UCSB's part. Classes haven't started yet. Why didn't they go a day earlier?

Look at the positive side: there is lots of time for Kathy to plan team bonding activities on the plane and on the bus. Lots of sing-a-long session to boost team spirit and further develop team chemistry. ;D

Time will fly by with a good book. Or playing chess. Chess is like volleyball, according to Heather Cox and Chris Marlowe.

My guess is that the AD didn't want to spring for another night of hotel and meals. Our athletic budget is VERY tight.
We are behind the power curve also because both Dayton and Missouri St. have already played 3 matches and UF one so all three have had some in game experiemce with this years squad and some proctice time to work on stuff afterwards. OTOH, maybe UF also has a home court disadvantage and we can take advantage of it. ;D
Although IB already picked Missouri St. to beat us, I expect to come out of the tourney 2-1. I will be heading up to Gainesville (to my motel in the bad side of town) tomorrow morning.

........I expect to come out of the tourney 2-1....... 2-1 is a definite possibility, but don't be shocked if they go 0-3. They're trying to incorporate a faster offense and swing blocking, and it may take a while before it starts to pay off. They may take their lumps with a brutal schedule at the start of the season (Stanford,Arizona,Santa Clara,Pepperdine, etc.) but it will pay off come tourney time!!

Have fun SB. From what I recall Dutro was generally setting lower and quicker than Bell last year, so a quicker offense is not real surprising (and I'm guessing not as dramatic a change as it may sound like?). Do all the changes make it harder for an opponent to plan for us (or is it too early for it to matter?)? I'll be surprised by either extreme (0-3 or 3-0), but 1-2 or 2-1 wouldn't be too surprising with all the changes. Our starters are for the most part a veteran squad who hopefully will adjust quickly to the new schemes I wonder how quick we'll be to revert to old ways if things aren't going so well with the new offense?

All the volley girls from ucsb drink, Kathy did not start that rule. She know's better, C'mon Isla Vista is next door and most of the girls all live on the party street known as Del Playa Drive !!!
Go GAUCHOS

What happened to the Assistant coach from Santa Barbara who went to USC for a year and left? Did she return to Santa Barbara?

Go GAUCHOS I actually hang out with most of the girls on the team and they do have the ability not to drink when told. They are not alcoholics just b/c they live in IV. There has been many a party where drinks have been offered to the girls, but they refused knowing they were working out the next day. AND this was all during the off-season. So the girls do have the ability to say know, and if the drinking policy is the same as it has been in years past, it is not enforced for certain aspects. One must remember that some of the girls are 21 and have the right to drink if they would like. The main reason the policy is there is to make sure that since games happen on thurs/fri/sat that the players aren't sick the next morning and thus not able to perform. Oh, and I say F it all and I am going to go with Gauchos coming out of the tourny 3-0, jet-lag or not.

What happened to the Assistant coach from Santa Barbara who went to USC for a year and left? Did she return to Santa Barbara? I think that she is maybe coaching a club team os some sort (?) in the general vicinity of SB. She did not go back to the Div 1 ranks this year.

I don't know about that. I think she wanted to coach division 1, but her desire to live in Montecito was greater than her desire to coach.
She was the director of the non-travelling program for the SB volleyball club a few months ago. I imagine she still is, but I think they're in an off season right now.
