Grote Makes Golden Bear History

After posting 28 kills on Thursday night against UCLA, something no Golden Bear has done in 12 years, junior Lydia Grote had no intentions of slowing down.

Just two days later, Cal's biggest offensive star matched that 28-kill total while recording an astonishing 94 attacks, the latter of which set a new program record that has stood since Mia Jerkov's 91-attack outing in 2002.

It's now or never for CAL to get a win. This might be their last best chance. They have been pushing teams the past few matches. AZ will hope to prevent that from being them that gets beaten though.

Cal pushed Arizona in the final 2 sets in Tucson, and like Rubio said in the article, they are pushing everyone right now. I don't know if Arizona would accept an NIVC invitation this year or not, but they need to keep their record above 500 if they are going to have a chance at even that. So, this is important for them.

Yes, I would say for Cal, this is a Golden opportunity. Time to put a halt to the 51 match losing streak in Pac-12 matches. Time to hear the Bears growl again ...

Sofia has 20 kills in 4 sets and the rest of the team will decide if she needs to get 4 more in the fifth or if we can win it in 4.

Arizona should win this game but it depends on which pins show up. The scrappy smart hitters, or the inconsistent swing into the block hitters. Also, if Herman’s set location and decision making are adequate we should be fine, but she has been inconsistent all year.

Arizona takes an incredibly lopsided first set 25-13. I wish we were playing how we’ve been playing the past three games all season, but whatever.
