Yes, his daughter (Kelly) played for the Chicago Thunder team. They lost to the MN team in the best of 5 match final. Saint Louis team was third, I think and Grand Rapids last. The league MVP was Benishe Dillard, from the St Louis team. I've memories of this. Back then Italian volleyball magazines/sites gave us some news about USPV, since Giovanni Guidetti was involved with it (iirc he was hc of Grand Rapids; or Chicago?). Grand Rapids HC. The USPV also did two Dream Team tours, the first was headed by Ari Selinger, then Gio did the second one right before the league started.

USPV played an exhibition match at my high school and my dad and I went to the coaches clinic . . . run by Guidetti. I had to remind my dad a couple years ago given Guidetti's career since then.

how many cities have been announced? Edit: Grand Rapids - MI Columbus - OH Dallas-Fort Worth - TX any other places? that's it so far. They'll release the others in the coming weeks I assume. (or try to get more teams together lol) okay so they only have three franchises set in stone. They're going to announce them before Christmas.

I posted this Tweet in another thread and thought this might be a good place for it as well.

They did a little segment on a Bally Sports show with Jenna Rosenthal... if Bally Sports is the TV partner... that would be dreadful. I finally found the clip online images.app.goo.gl/pfUCJcvMs2sDwgzY7

I posted this Tweet in another thread and thought this might be a good place for it as well. I’ve said somewhere on here a while back that you’d have to have a team in Nebraska. I think the locations have been good so far. I hope the seasons aren’t at the same time to maximize fan attention. Maybe start around March? Give teams a couple months to sign early grads and start practices. Then there could be like a week off in May or early June or something where spring grads could sign where they may be needed/wanted.

Thoughts on this interview with PVF founders:First and foremost, they are selling this to potential owners, players, advertisers and, broadcast partners so they are making this sound like the greatest thing since smartphones. But: 3:28 - I thinks there's something to there being pent-up demand for a women's pro sport that doesn't seem that it's just a derivative of an already popular men's pro league. That being said, I haven't seen any coverage of this new league on ESPN's "ESPNW" webpage yet. 5:58 - I see where the criticism of this "Real" branding comes from, but it seems to be coming from the desire to call attention to the traditional sports buisness model. I'm sure they feel it'll make it more digestible to advertisers and potential media partners. 10:00 - So... they won't be playing under international rules? ? 11:23 - This must have been recorded sometime between Nov 28th and Dec 2nd of 2022 12:20 - These teams need to start announcing who they are pretty quick to meet this goal. 13:45 - I think teams having local talent was more important before radio and TV. Most pro sports in the U.S. and Canada are about the "best" players regardless of region. International teams with quotas of local talent would be a unique concept around here. 18:30 - Kinda wish they would have gone into the weeds about the differences between this and the USPVL. Also, excited there's a separation of the buisness and sports sides of this new league. 24:26 - This anecdote is kinda sad. 25:23 - Makes me wonder how much of this potential talent had kept their conditioning and skill level up to be able to step back into the sport. 26:00 - Having talked with quite a few Arena Football players who played in the original AFL, I have heard horror stories about how some owners run their organizations. It was Mind-blowing how many players loved playing for DeVos after coming from another team. I hope the rest of the owners in this new league can keep the promises these two are making here.

10:00 - So... they won't be playing under international rules? ? I dont think that's what they necessarily meant. It kinda sounded to me like foreigner limits/rules in other leagues but idk. (I dont think there's any reason for them to not be under international rules) More concerning is they called Cecile the "nick saban" of volleyball... which is... something.

More concerning is they called Cecile the "nick saban" of volleyball... which is... something. As I'm kinda new to the world and culture of volleyball, I'm not sure if that's a knock on Reynaud, Saban, or if you're just stating it's a bad simile. Being from Michigan, I know of some of the controversies around Saban.

The comparison is unfortunate. Wins and losses are not the salient metric for Cecile's career, it is that she has been involved in all the different facets of volleyball at almost all levels around the world. She was the president of the USAV, and she has worked many years with the AVCA. Her importance has more to do with the functioning of the organizations behind the sport, the intricacies of the arcane workings of mostly the US collegiate game, although she does have some experience internationally, although I am pretty sure they are not all that concerned the international game, which is too bad.

Yeah, I was trying to come up with a better comparison as well. Pete Rozelle maybe?

Oh great! I lived in Columbus for 20 years, no professional volleyball team.
The instant I leave? Professional volleyball team.

Looks like all three pro leagues will have representation at the U.S. National Team's Open
